Title: Carb Jets... what do they do?
Post by djpennin on 05/18/07 at 09:29:48

so on the carb i know of 4 jets or screws>

1. main jet
2. pilot jet
3. screw on right side
4. idle finger screw on left

what do all of these do?

how does a 145 main differ from a 152.5?

how does a 45 pilot differ from a 50 pilot or 55 pilot?

thanks

the larger the number, the more fule it will deliver.  for mikuni jets, the number means cc of fuel per minute (I think).

main jet delivers fuel from 3/4 to wide open throttle.

pilot jet delivers fuel from what, 0-1/4 throttle

screw on rhs uh, is this an air bleed? I forget. but it basically it adjusts how much air the pilot jet sees.

idle screw on left:  the more you turn it, the mnore the butterfly valve int he throat of the carb opens.  the more it opens, the more air & fuel the carb pulls at idle.  in the VM type carbs lancer sells, the idle screw goes into the carb throat, and the slide rests on this.  the end is not threaed but tapered, so turning it in pushes the slide up more, giving it a higher idle rpm.

screw on rhs, this is an air pilot screw. but it basically it adjusts how much fuel the pilot circuit gets.

idle finger screw on left:  adjusts idle rpm.

He references both.  When he refers to the pilot adjusting screw, he's talking about the pilot adjusting screw on the right.  When he says to turn the idle up or down, he's talking about the thumb knob on the left side.
