Title: 2002 Savage Oil Leak Post by bruiser81 on 05/08/07 at 18:40:27 I am new to bike's so please forgive me on not knowing the correct terms for the oil leak area. It is a bolt behind the kickstand that seems to leak a few drops after I ride it for a while. After it cools off it will not leak anymore. I would appreciate any help on this matter. |

Title: Re: 2002 Savage Oil Leak Post by vroom1776 on 05/09/07 at 08:32:34 shift shaft leak? I think rob and someone else has this minor problem. Are you sure it's not coming from the timing inspection cover on the case? If it's not tight enough or has a pinched oring, it'll leak. |

Title: Re: 2002 Savage Oil Leak Post by bruiser81 on 05/09/07 at 20:07:41 Thanks for the replies. It looks like a bolt but when i turn it to tighten or loosen it does nothing but turn. It does not feel like it is tightening or loosening and it does not leak everytime I ride. |
Title: Re: 2002 Savage Oil Leak Post by Greg_650 on 05/09/07 at 20:13:14 Don't look at the drops on the ground, or the bolts on the bottom. Think "gravity" and start looking up from there. Oil has a real funny way of moving around in the wind. Look around before you grab a wrench. Maybe even take it through a car wash and then start watching. |
Title: Re: 2002 Savage Oil Leak Post by tuxedo on 05/09/07 at 20:48:17 Black light reactive oil additive. Glows in black light. Breaks down in oil in a week so you won't have to worry about it if you spring a leak next month. |

Title: Re: 2002 Savage Oil Leak Post by justin_o_guy on 05/23/07 at 22:22:55 I went & looked at mine. I think you are messing with the bolt that goes theu the plate the right peg mounts on. If you will get a 17 MM wrench or, I know I will hear howls of protest, but 11/16ths might get ya thru iof you dont have the 17mm,to use for a backup. I wouldnt recommend using it for the primary tool, but only backup. Tighten with the 9/16ths if ya dont have a 15 mm, on the one behind the sidestand. I think this helps "Pinch" the case & could allow a leak if loose. |
Title: Re: 2002 Savage Oil Leak Post by verslagen1 on 05/23/07 at 22:29:15 it's a 14mm on the side stand side. With a 17mm nut on the other. Technically, you should tighten the nut, 50 ft.lbs. ;D |
Title: Re: 2002 Savage Oil Leak Post by Greg_650 on 05/25/07 at 06:30:15 On second thought...if it is a leak that stops after the bike has been sitting, then it probably isn't the drain plug. Take a look under the front pulley cover. If the starter has ever been pulled, it could be a bad starter o-ring. |
