you all know of the shutoff backfire, well i have a backfire when starting my bike and a big bang to go with it. could this be decompression cable adjustment? i adjusted my valves last week but not the cable and now i have this issue

Did you have the engine @ TDC on the compression stroke when you adjusted the valves? Was the engine 24rs. cold beforehand?

It's easy to get the wrong TDC.  Adjust your valves again and make sure you have TDC on the compression stroke.  Spin that puppy around and watch the valves go up and down till you're sure.   ;D
