Title: Putting crankcase halves back together
Post by grim on 04/30/07 at 20:14:54

Any ideas or tips on how to get the two halves together smoothly?  The manual says you should have no problems getting the halves to slide together.

I did tighten the 46mm nut that hold on the flywheel weight and this may be the culprit.

Basically the halves are together and the flywheel moves freely, BUT when I tighten the bolts that hold the halves together, the flywheel stops moving freely.  Very strange.

Did anyone exerience the smooth crankcase assembly?

Did anyone have a difficult one?

Thanks guys/gals

just jump right in why don't ya

.I thought i was something just doing the cam chain,
turns out i'm nothing compared to the crank case splitting you're up against.

I know, this isn't helpfull but it adds fill untill someone who knows what their doing replies.

best of luck

Did the crank get seperated? Is the distance across the web correct? Zuzuki manual, page 3-46 upper right ppicture. 70.0+ or - .1 mm.

Do you remember how it felt when you were at this point taking it apart?

I am strictly fumbling in the dark, I've never been here & I hope to never be,, But, good luck!

Try tapping the crankshaft, balanceshaft and the gearshafts with a non-malet hammer as the SSM says. This will seat the bearings.

In my SSM it's in the chapter Engine 3 Crankcase,  page 3-48.

If a large resistance is felt to rotation, try to free the shafts by tapping the driveshaft or countershaft with a plastic hammer

Hope this helps.

After been working in aviation maintenance ( for 40+ years) , I read the manual cover-to-cover and try to remember where descriptions are located, not what the procedure is.
So I thumped through the SSM and found it.
No offence

None taken, I asked wher was it. Aircraft maintenance would teach a guy to be thorough.
