Post by Scottwerty on 04/30/07 at 09:39:50

Yeah yeah sounds dumb but which was is it to remove timing plug clockwise or counter-clockwise. I think its counter. Previous owner or mechanic had over tightened the plug and now i have to deal with it. >:(
so far I've bent three 1/8th inch pieces of metal two quarters etc..ect...

Yep, got it off  ;D  It was CCW bought a Heavy Duty gasket scraper (Really thick) and used the handle and a pair of vise grips as leverage. That sucka was stuck on there. Scraped a little metal but not to bad. won't be putting it back on that tight. Plan on doing valve clearance wanted to make sure i was at TDC. Man that was a PITA

Sometimes when something is toward the middle of something, seems people start thinkking thast's the ONE thing that's holding everything else together, so they get it exxxtra tight. Maybe he didnt notice the O-Ring? Nice thing is, now ya got a tool to wheel it outta there nice & easy.

Can't believe how hard that thing was to get off. scuffed it up pretty bad :'( .At least my valves are up to spec. What a difference I just didn't relize how bad they were until I adjusted them. Didn't do the decomp cable adjustment wasn't sure how to get the little piston thing out, every stroke it seemed that it never moved. Guess i'll save that one for a l8ter date.

I;ve never adjusted mine either. Maybe I should look at that, but the bike starts fine so I dont see what's the big deal.

loose is fine as long as it starts.  Too tight and it might not have enough pull.   ;D
