Title: AIR FILTER
Post by norway on 04/30/07 at 05:41:35

IM THINKING ABOUT REPLACING THE ORIGINAL AIRFILTER BOK WITH A PERFORMANCE FILTER. MY QUESTION IS: WILL THIS GIVE ME ANY PROBLEMS IN MOIST, WET OR COLD WEATHER?

that is why i swiss cheesed the air box door, and others pull the air horn out of the top of the box, water/rain can be sucked in through an open element, i dont have any personal experience with it, but i didn't like the potential. K&N does make a bolt in replacement for the savage filter, typically $50 u.s.

Yeah, I used the &N drop-in replacement and yanked the rubber snorkel from the top.  If you never ride in the rain, an cone or pod filter may be great for you.  Note that some folks report no issues with water getting sucked into cone/pod filter elements.  It just seems like a potential to me.  Some folks won't use a performance filter because they do allow a bit more particulate matter to pass through.  That's another point to ponder.  I am okay with that as these filters don't void manufacturers' warranties in any cases I've ever seen (meaning they are viewed as safe) and I change my oil very regularly.
