Title: Heat shield for SE muffler
Post by mclutter on 04/27/07 at 09:47:07

Can anyone tell me where I could find a heat shield/guard for my bike after I install a SE muffler? I would rather not use the stock one as it will be too big. Would it be possible to go the Harley shop and purchase one? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Here's one at JC Whitney. (http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/tf-Browse/s-10101/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2006317/p-2006317/N-111+10211+600014663/c-10111)

If you can find a used bike/ salvage yard kind of place they usually have all kinds of after market stuff. Sort of like an army surplus store for motorbikes.

The one down the road from me had 2 sizes, one like JC Whitney and another one a little longer.

I bought mine for about $5 from a box of heat shields (had a bunch of therm in their) in a place that was not a strict HD shop but woirked on Harley's & other old bikes. even came with one hose clamp for me to use (only then had to buy one @ car parts place). the same size (about 11" long would have cost me about $25 from local bike accessories store. just as good - covered end of muffler, the oiece of tube I had with the 10 degree bend in it to go in the header & the end of the header & both clamps.

My experience here where I live was that the local Harley shop doesn't carry generic heat shields. And it seems now all they carry are the curved ones for their pipes. I'm still looking around for a medium long one to cover the extension to my Sportster muff.

I used a 10 inch heat shield for my HD turnout muffler.
The Samson heat shield is a H129  10" x 2 1/4"

(click on Accessories, then Heat Shields) I ordered
mine last year from a local chopper shop, $39.95 + tax
It's holding up nicely, pretty good chrome

Thanks everyone for the help. I just need to pick one now. Got to get ready for the city wide annual bike blessing this morning.
