Title: Caution on Tensioner parts Post by K1200LTryder on 04/25/07 at 10:02:26 I was so exited this morning, got the call yesterday that the parts I ordered last wednesday to fix the cam tensioner were in, and I sent my wife off to pick them up (30 miles) I ordered the rear guide, cam chain tensioner, gaskets and related pieces. I got : rear guide : front guide : gaskets : head plug cap BUT NO TENSIONER !!! Just got off the phone with the parts guy, and he tells me that I didnt order the ADJUSTER. He sez the rear guide is the TENSIONER. I'm soooo peeeeeed....I explained to him what the parts looked like, and exactly what I needed, but he screwed my order ( but didnt miss a thing on the visa#, which he charged right away) Now I hafta wait another week to put the bike back together >:( Beware of how you order things I guess, and dont assume the parts guy knows what you are talking about. |

I Did take the bike apart while I was waitin on the cam, cuz I was afraid of the condition of the tensioner & I wasnt riding till I checked it again. I DID just earn something from your problem, tho. I have a copier/fax machine, so if I am not sure the person I am talking to "gets it" I can copy & circle parts & fax it to the parts place.. They cant say I goofed then.. Crummy being down right now,, such nice weather. |

Title: Re: Caution on Tensioner parts Post by justin_o_guy on 04/25/07 at 10:41:38 So, lemme get this straight, YOU ordered a tensioner AND the rear guide, & this guy tell ya the reason you didnt get the tensioner is because the rear guid is the tensioner, BUTm you ardered more parts than he delivered. Did he have your phone number? Did he not notice you ardered more parts than he was putting on your sales ticket? I say the guy hung himself. He screwed up & he knows it & is just trying to hang it on you. Since he has to know there are more ways to refer to a part than the "official" nomenclature & since the chance for miscommunication exists particularly in this area 7 since he is the one who is supposed to make sure he gets the order right, he should have been asking you questions to make sure the order was correct. He should have called you when he saw the order you placed included 2 of the d\same thing(according to his choice of parts descriptions) He says you ordered the rear guide twice, once as a rear guide 7 again as a tensioner. I may not be the brightes guy, but if I had taken your order, I can assure you, I would have either called & gotten clarification or ordered the "tensioner" as we call it. You would be wrenching instead of having a wrenched gut sensation. You know how lucky I am to have a guy who gets me Suzuki parts & I never even have to walk in the Zuki shop? Maybe costs a few $ more, I dunno, but the service is friendly & they do a great job of geiing what I need. Everyone ought to go to every shop close to them & see if they can find a shop that will take good care of their business & treat them decent. I want to deal with the best shop I can, I dont care what the sign out front says, It can say Mopeds Are Us as long as they do the job right & dont rip me off.. |

Yes they call the rear guide a tensioner. Yes they call the spring and plunger an adjuster. and the front guide is the only guide they list. This nomenclature is not very discriptive to us so we don't use it. So it's our fault for not speaking their lingo. But, if you walk into a dealer, tell them what you want. Point at pictures and say 'das it', they shouldn't have any problem taking the parts back and getting you the right ones and charging you only the difference in parts price, no restocking, no shipping. That's the only reason I'd drive 30 miles, pay premium, and wait a week. Cause I can stay at home, order it myself, get it delivered to my doorstep for the same price or less. And that's what I do! :P |

I even confirmed with the guy over the phone, that the tensioner I wanted was the plunger thing that attached to the REAR guide....could I have been anymore specific ??? |

Title: Re: Caution on Tensioner parts Post by vroom1776 on 04/25/07 at 11:57:14 sometimes the microfiche is wrong too. e.g. the SUZUKI micrfiche lists the L70 head cover bolt as a valve guide. the part # is wrong too. it returns a valve guide, but points at the bolt. the bikebandit/ron ayers microfiche lists it as a bolt, and returns a bolt. |

I first ordered the tensioner(long plastic guide) thinking I was going to get the tensioner assembly(metal thing with spring). Opened the engine up even further and saw I actually needed the long plastic guide(tensioner). Same day I get the tensioner and I am like, "What, how did they know I wanted this part?" But now I have no tensioner assembly....so I then I had to order the part I originally wanted, which was the assembly.....lucky I needed both |

If I am ordering from the dealer I usually prepare myself-1. I check the Ron Ayers microfiche and make a note about the pages and about the ## of the wanted parts on these pages. 2.After that I call and it sounds this way- I have a Suzuki motorcycle /wait untill the guy gets to the screen/, 01 LS650 Savage /wait for him to get to the bike/, Now go to the page "cylinder head cover" /wait for the guy to get there/, ... OK , on this screen, I need ... that should be #12 /verify/. Now lets go to the page that says " fr. wheel"...... and so on. |
