Title: Tachometer
Post by K1200LTryder on 04/24/07 at 09:29:32

Does anybody have a tach on their bike ?

I think the last bike I owned without one was a 1969 Kawasali 90.

Are they even available ???

Several have tachs, I want one, just the folks who sell them dont really want me to have one. They insist I bribe them with large sums of money before they will give me one.. SO< I wait,,

Very cool !....are the accurate....easy to install ?

Title: Re: Tachometer
Post by Reelthing on 04/24/07 at 11:54:08

real easy to install - fairly accurate - bounce around some just because we're on a thumper - but not bad under way

With my recent foray into the world of header destruction & the (hopefully) upcoming purchase of a piston, the $$ for a tach just isnt there now. I do like that little 624 one. Thats nice. Naturally, ythe one on Reels is Reel nice, too, But I suspect its a bit pricier than any 62 bux.

I think mine was $80, but I bought it used for $50.

It's the OEM tank with the speedometer removed and the hole welded close, bondoed and resprayed. Note the lights on the upper triple tree.

It looks like you need to buy the adaptor as well. $33.95 ???

Title: Re: Tachometer
Post by Reelthing on 04/27/07 at 07:02:33

adapter for what? there is an adapter that is made for single fire ign systems - that is not used on the savage as it is a dual fire.

Title: Re: Tachometer
Post by bduff on 05/22/07 at 06:19:12

how is a tach installed?  were do the wires go?

Title: Re: Tachometer
Post by Reelthing on 05/22/07 at 06:38:32

The couple I've messed with are 4 wire - the 2 functional wires go to the spade connectors on the coil - and 1 is a ground wire - goes real nice under the horn mount - the fourth wire is the power wire for the internal light - so depending on when you want the tach light on - you can just piggyback this onto the bat(+) of the coil and it lights with the ign switch on - or hook it to the lights and it comes on with those, so it can help run you battery down if you turn the key to parking lights on

So what is the actual redline on the savage anyway ?

Title: Re: Tachometer
Post by verslagen1 on 05/22/07 at 10:13:15

The highest rpm listed in the manual is 6500.
I assume that's redline.   ;D

Post by klx650sm2002 on 05/23/07 at 02:57:51

From what I've read I think 6500rpm is red line.

How did you mount that?  Got a pic?

Title: Re: Tachometer
Post by justin_o_guy on 05/23/07 at 18:25:19

Have you had that long enough to vouch for it being rugged enough to handle the ride?

I think I could manage $35.00 for a tach. If you can manage a pic that would be cool. Maybe I can find one on the pit Posse site.

Hey, Thumperclone, I went to pitposee.com & coudn't find any gauges of any kind. Hit their "Search site" & entered "Tachometer" & got nothing. Can you give me the address of the page you found that thing on?

This is it. (http://www.pitposse.com/tachhourmeter.html)

Thanks, that little dude looks pretty small. I like that. And it has an hour meter. That's cool. At the end of 3,000 miles I can see how many hours it took to make the 3,000 miles & get an average speed. I think I can make a bracket for it. I dont see me gluing it to the bike.

looks a little different than http://www.tinytach.com/tinytach/gasoline.php

wonder if it holds up

Title: Re: Tachometer
Post by strangeling67 on 05/23/07 at 21:53:40

Does the savage require a certain type of tach like the HD single fire or will any motorcycle tach work ?

Oh don't worry I should have read all the blog first as it answers my question !!! My bad

Title: Re: Tachometer
Post by justin_o_guy on 05/23/07 at 21:58:30

Tiny Tach doesnt allow me to replace the battery, but, with a 5 year service life that's about $10.00 a year( including shipping) for a tach. That's not too tuff. I am guessing each we have looked at has the connection in the back? Tiny doesn't look to have a big enough profile for the connections to be on the edge. Well, the first one( Pit Posse) said it can be glued on, so maybe the connector is on the edge of that one?

Title: Re: Tachometer
Post by trooper3 on 05/24/07 at 02:56:42

Had a Tiny Tach on my 2 stroke dirt bike for quite a while, took a lot of abuse and never failed. After several years I sold it to a friend who put it on his built up go-kart and he is still using it after another couple years.  He runs his go-kart in the rain and snow so the Tiny Tach I had was pretty rugged. Only downside I see is it is not as "pretty" as a round chromed analog tach.

The Outlaw Racing Tach/hour Meter from PitPosse has a slot in the back that the sensor wire clips into.  It is also a sealed unit whose battery cannot be changed.
