Hi everyone ... have another tire question that I'm hoping the more "experienced" Savagers here will be able to shed some light on ...

A few weeks ago, I bought a front tire on e-bay fr. New Mexico ... it arrived today.

Dunlop D401 Elite S/T
90/90-19 (52H) Tubeless (e-bay ad did not mention that the tire was tubeless ...)

This is to replace my stock IRC 100/90-19 (57H)
Questions;
- Will the 52H Dunlop fit? And can it be installed with a tube?
- Is it safe to Ride on a tubeless tire on a spoked rim with a tube installed?

yes no problem with this have one on our bike you have to put a tube in with it, its a good tyre done 6000 at moment with a lot left to go

tubless is not a problem, it is th fact that the rims wont seal due to the spokes. Thus you must put a tube in. Not sure about your other question, but I think it might be a speed rating, not sure though. Might be a load rating.

If i remember correctly the H is the speed rating and the 52 vs 57 is a load rating. That would make sense as the replacement tire is slightly smaller and would normally be required to carry less load. Max

Thanks! Just came in from the shed, where I read the sidewall of the Dunlop which says to install with a tube for wheels requiring a tube.
Bought a 90/90 instead of a 100/90 tire because a friend of mine has a 90/90-19 Maxxis on the front of his wife's '87 LS ... I rode it last Nov. and besides thinking that the lower profile of the 90/90 tire looks pretty cool on the front of the Savage, I thought that it made the Bike handle a little "crisper" as well!

One further question ... what size tube will I require?

Again if I remember correctly, 100/90 is 100 mm wide with a 90% aspect ratio, width to height. A 90/90 would be 10 mm less wide and and inperceptable 1mm narrower. All this would be true if the tire makers were consistent, but their ideas of consistency to standards vary greatly. If you check the old rear tire threads, some can fit certain brands of 150/90 in the back while other brands rub the fender strut bolts even w/o bag supports. I've run a variety of rear sizes and brands and some fill the width of the swing arm with little to spare and others have quite a bit of room. the new Maxxis Classic WWW is a 140/90 vs the OE 140/80. Works for me.
