Title: Re: s40/savage vs vstar 650 Post by babbalou on 04/16/07 at 18:24:56 The S40 is quicker. From Motorcycle consumer News magazine: May 98 V-Star 0-60 7.82 1/4 mile 15.82 Sep 96 LS650 0-60 6.98 1/4 mile 15.30 The engines are the same since the test so the results should be similar today. |

Title: Re: s40/savage vs vstar 650 Post by justin_o_guy on 04/16/07 at 19:09:14 I expect it would take the Vstar, even stock, since the Vsar is so much heavier, tho I dont have the numbers, it certainly looks a lot heavier. I kknow a guy who has one & the folks he went on a trip with( He rode, they took the cage) said his bike was outta wind at 80 MPH. It might run a bit faster, but what I gathered was it was outta acceleration at 80. Heck, run the guy & see? What ya got to lose? IF he wins, just spend a little time & $$ on exhaust & jets & whoop hiz tail. Then, he can mess with is, then you would HAVE to put a cam in yours, so it's all good.. Your wife would be obligated to agree! Maybe you should sand bag & make SURE he wins, so you can get a Supertrapp & rejet.. Yea,, that's the tikkit,, sandbag & Looose,, uh huhh,, I can see it now,, |
Title: Re: s40/savage vs vstar 650 Post by albb6 on 04/16/07 at 19:14:42 My brother has an 06 v-star 650 and I'm sure I can take him easily with my 05 S40. I've riden his and it is alot more comfy but doesn't have the same giddy-up-and-go of mine. |
Title: Re: s40/savage vs vstar 650 Post by jd06s40 on 04/16/07 at 19:21:52 he has vance and hines exhaust and rejet i have a screamin eagle and rejet white spacer mod and a kn airfilter |
Title: Re: s40/savage vs vstar 650 Post by justin_o_guy on 04/16/07 at 19:44:23 So, if ya let him win, you will NEED a cam,, simple as that, ;D |
Title: Re: s40/savage vs vstar 650 Post by jd06s40 on 04/16/07 at 19:46:04 what kind of power does that give me my bike has 1300 miles on the clock |
Title: Re: s40/savage vs vstar 650 Post by justin_o_guy on 04/16/07 at 19:58:14 I dunno, yet, (I am waiting on the cam I am getting thru Lancer, the VERY same one you may well get for a much reduced price IF he should become a distributor for the outfit that made mine.. grrr! LOL,,) But I will be telling the folks here how it is as soon as I can. I have a Supertrapp & a 150 main, stock pilot & the trapp has 14 bafflesin it. I am also adding small shims to the clutch springs, just in case the added power would cause it to slip, I dont want to have to take it apart again. I hope the shims are thick enough,, |
Title: Re: s40/savage vs vstar 650 Post by LANCER on 04/16/07 at 20:05:19 I am getting dealer prices from Web-Cam Inc now, that is how I was able to reduce the price from the $225 last year to the $175 this year. You may have been thinking of the quest to become a dealer for the piston company, and to be able to save some $$ for the gang on those parts. |
Title: Re: s40/savage vs vstar 650 Post by jd06s40 on 04/16/07 at 20:17:08 justin let me know how it works out for you my bike has only 1300 miles on it i dont think i want to go ripping out cams and such right now but maybe in the future |
Title: Re: s40/savage vs vstar 650 Post by justin_o_guy on 04/16/07 at 20:20:42 Ahhh HA! I see,, well, Now I feel better! I am so ready for the cam. I have the new chain run thru & tied in place. I hope the piston deal works out. I want in on it, but I really need for it to happen at the 3rd of the month, so I can pay for it. I cant be spending over 150 or so, that's even liable to get me shot, but I will risk it for the chance to have THE scootinest 650 in town. I think I have the ONLY S40 or even Savage 650 in Longview. I havent seen another, yet. Just asked the wife, she hasnt seen any either. I am wanting to run the guy with the Vstar, but his is stock, so , I am sure to mash it.. I guess I better hunt up a Harley.. they are thick in these [parts |
Title: Re: s40/savage vs vstar 650 Post by jd06s40 on 04/16/07 at 20:24:48 yep i know what you been about harley they are everwhere. i have the only s40 in marion ohio, mostley honda and harleys here. the hondas are built about 30 miles from here. |

Title: Re: s40/savage vs vstar 650 Post by Reelthing on 04/16/07 at 21:01:19 Close run me thinks - that vstar is a bit of a lard arse but that matters most in the first 50 ft - so if you can get the hole shot, shift well to hang on to you got um - but it's going to be gaining on the high end I think. |
Title: Re: s40/savage vs vstar 650 Post by jd06s40 on 04/16/07 at 21:04:59 cool 1/4 mile i think i got him |
Title: Re: s40/savage vs vstar 650 Post by Reelthing on 04/16/07 at 21:11:21 if you lived close I'd bring the refreshments! |
Title: Re: s40/savage vs vstar 650 Post by justin_o_guy on 04/16/07 at 21:18:23 Yea, 1fiddy,, but soon as the cam goes in I am gonna pull Lancers Tuning sheet & go thru it right.. I sure hope I dont have to rassle that pilot jet out, cuz its stucc in there.. |
Title: Re: s40/savage vs vstar 650 Post by vroom1776 on 04/17/07 at 09:52:58 hell, my savage will eat my V* 1100 in the 1/4. a little more than 1/2 the HP of the V*, and less than 1/2 the weight (not counting rider) |
Title: Re: s40/savage vs vstar 650 Post by Reelthing on 04/17/07 at 10:02:50 I think that 1100* is at 600lbs instead of 500lbs - so it's got more yet to get moving |
Title: Re: s40/savage vs vstar 650 Post by vroom1776 on 04/17/07 at 10:56:45 yep, the V* is a big fat heavy pig. mine's more like 640, too... chrome :o I figure my savage is down to about 280, 290 lbs... but for $$$, there are lot's of after market go fast parts for it... easy to get to 95HP & 80+ ft-lbs or so... |
