Post by jd06s40 on 04/15/07 at 12:37:11

well got my bike running good w/no backfiring. i have a screamin eagle muffler,155 main jet,55 pilot jet, shaved whitespacer to half, performed lancer carb turning to perfection( very easy to do) got bike runing real well but sometimes when i let off throttle to turn it will dye,or when i get on it hard and then let off the bike will dye i have rechecked for intake and exhaust leaks found none
i am 1.75 out on the mix screw any ideas i am baffled

Do you have it idling as slow as you can get it to idle so it sounds as cool as possible?

Well, I am gonna be forced to suppose that since he answered the Dye question, & didnt mess with the idle question, Idle isnt the issue. Mine died a lot until I set the idle higher.. thats why I asked.. thats the only idea I have on it, maybe someone else can figure it,, good lukk tho.

The idle speed varies alot, specially on cold moist mornings.  If I adjust the idle in the morning to 1200, it will be 1500 in the afternoon.

since you worked on the white spacer - did you 1) get the slide clean as clean can be and 2) get the rubber seal in ring proper under the lid?

might be worth replacing your pilot with the stock one to see if that is what's causing the problem. especially since it didn't happen until you changed those. Is it idleing OK, and will it restart easily?

it idles fine and starts up fast
today i got on it pretty hard messing around with a buddy and when i let off the throttle it died again

come to think about it - pretty sure it's the slide - doesn't take much a greasy finger print or two - what happens is as it gets hot the already very tight fit gets tighter - the slide is not going all the way down - did you oil or lube the slide in any way?

no just took it out filed white spacer down to 60% left and put all back  together i was wondering if maybe the carb vent tubes were pinched if that would do it guess i could pull the carb back off tommorrow night and recheck
everything

don't need to pull the carb to check and clean the slide - just the seat and tank - I assume you replace the carb screws with allen heads - I bet if you'll clean the slide and the bore it fits in real fine this weird stuff will go away

152.5 and stock pilot sounds about right if you have free'r flow exhaust

carb cleaner? or clean cloth or both

Title: Re: bike stalls

I use electric contact cleaner - carb cleaner should work spray on a rag and swab it out and rub it down

before you do look into the bore real close and see if a fine ring has formed at the bottom of the bore

should i remove the two screws and the slide ot of the carb to do this?  thanks

should just need to losen the hose clamps so you can rotate the carb a little and remove the 4 on top that hold the diaphram plate down and the spring, diaphram slide assembly will slip right out -

ok - got it - if your sure you got the parts in the correct order on the needle I wouldn't take it back apart - it's the outside of the slide that hangs in the bore if it's the least bit dirty

1 other thing I forgot to ask - you do have a brass washer under the mainjet right?

You may need to detach the fuel and vacuum lines before rotating the carb.

i will do  the cleaning and stuff this weekend, the bike was doing this when i had 155  main in i thought it might be to big so went down to the 152.5 and come to think of it i might have left that brass washer out i will check this weekend if so where would i get a new one? i think it is the dirt or finger print deal though cause thats when all this started when i did the whiter spacer

still stalls but i havent cleaned the carb yet. my do problem is backfiring is back. i have been doing lancer carb stuff to perfection i think and still getting some backfire now and then. no exhaust or intake leaks. running 152.5 main and 55 pilot and white spacer mod
any ideas

I dont see an answer to the idle question. How high does it idle? How fast are you running when you let off the throttle & it dies? ine dies when I let off at 60 or so..

Title: Re: bike stalls
Post by jd06s40 on 04/22/07 at 20:05:26

same here about 60or 3/4 throttle

Title: Re: bike stalls
Post by justin_o_guy on 04/22/07 at 20:38:17

Then I would think the idle may be a bit low. Mine dies if I just let off the throttle ate highway speeds, if I will play with it & allow it to drop RPM more slowly, it will keep running. I kinda wonder if at speed, the airpressure under the seat is low enough to make this happen. I wouldnt worry about it, I think its pretty nowrmwl. BUT, others may disagree. You folks? Yours die if ya let the throttle close at 60?

How many turns out is the pilot idle screw?   ;D
