Title: best bike review Post by shadow on 04/07/07 at 06:05:12 New here as a poster but I've been reading along for a while now. A while back someone posted a reprinted article from 2003 I believe about the best beginner bike for under $5000.00. I thought it was this board and have done several searches but cannot find it anywhere. Anybody know where I can locate it? Thanx Greg |
Title: Re: best bike review Post by Paladin on 04/07/07 at 08:29:15 Try: http://www.epinions.com/content_106184806020 Altho' to be honest, there is no such thing as a "best beginner's bike" -- too many varibles. There is no "best" anything. There may be a best for a purpose readily available for a reasonable amount of money, but no actual best. |
Title: Re: best bike review Post by justin_o_guy on 04/07/07 at 08:51:40 I dunno about that article, but this Zuki 650 is a hoot & the Kawasaki Ninja 250 has been on the market for many years, like 20? or so. If I get to add to the bikes I own, that's likely the one I would go for. I think a new on is a bit over $3,000.00. They are reliable & offer great MPG & aren't "crotch rocket" seating. I have a friend in West Tx who knows a tall man who rides one all the time & says it is a gas. If I had one to go with this 650 I would really giggle. I can't imagine NOT keeping the 650. It's just to fine pulling thru a turn or away from a stop. It even handles decent. I might think otherwise if I had enough hours on a better handler, but it's a very comfortable bike to sit on, low & easy to handle. Cant go wrong. Oh, I am 5'6" and a fellow let me sit on his Kawi 250. I can flat foot it easily. I wear 30 inch inseam jeans. |
Title: Re: best bike review Post by shadow on 04/07/07 at 14:22:16 I/We actually have An S-40 and a GS-500E. Both were in the article. I was looking for it because it had a lot of good info on all the bikes.Wish I would have printed it out when I saw it. I agree with the broad interpretation of beginner bike. I love My GS it was my starter bike, but I rode dirt for years. The S-40 was/is my girlfriend's starter bike.Great for her.Wish I'd had it to take my test on.Way easier to ride slow than the GS. Thanks for the help. Greg |

The very best beginners bike is one that has sold heaps. WHEN,not if,You drop it,hit a kerb, neighbours dog, slippery corner you know there are plenty of cheap spares around. Over here you can do a course & ride any size bike if you have an Open Licence & over a certain age I passed last millenium. I pulled into a mates shop a while ago as a bloke pulled out on a new FatBoy. Had his licence for a week & dropped it 3 times already!! Expensive learner ride. Dirt bikes are great to learn on as you learn how to controll it with the back wheel spinning & sliding eg oil on road, wet corners, panic stops for trees instead of cages. Whatever it is don't be concerned about the paint. :P |
Title: Re: best bike review Post by Island_Biker on 04/09/07 at 11:57:15 I saw an ad last week for an 1100cc bike (I forget which kind) that he advertised as a "great beginner's bike" |
