It hardly ever freezes here in So CAL so I've been using 20W-50,
made by Valvoline - called 4 Stroke Motorcycle Oil.
Sold by Kragen Auto parts - rated API SF/SG/SJ   $3.29/qt

but here's what my manual sez:

I use Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W-50.  It's available at the Wal-Marts I've checked.

Lucky SOB, my Wally doesn't carry it.

It's not in with all of the other oils.  There's a very small motorcycle section with a few oddball things (mostly Bell brand) and usually about a dozen quarts of oil (part of it 2-stroke), a couple of cans of pig snot, etc.

Lucky SOB! Your Wally has a M/C section.
I'll have to try another one.  Not all Wally's are equal.

just a  note about source of oil - likely cheaper @ car place than dealer - likely cheaper to buy non-suzuki brand too.

I use a m/cycle oil (Valvoline as it happens) - 10-40 - from my local car parts place (Checker) but think others on site use regular type oil - confirmation, anyone?

I use putoline off road 4+ which is an SG spec 10w/40 synthetic.

I use Amsoil 10-40 full synthetic (JASO rated, meaning no friction modifiers for wet clutches)

BTW, if anyone wants to order Amsoil, send me a PM and you can get it at my cost.  If you want to check it out, go to Amsoil.com.

8)  I have been using Penziol 10W-40 and have not had any problems.  The steelership said everything is in good shape the last time I had it in for scheduled maintenance.  It s an 06 S40 with a little over 4000 miles.  Any further recommendation is greatlt appreciated.  I drive conservatively, and some say I baby it too much.  (shift at 15, 25, 35, 45-50, and try to keep it around 65-70 on the highway.)  The older you get, the longer it takes heal.

make sure that whatever you use has no friction modifiers, otherwise the clutch can slip.

Hey Jimmy,

Just move to Tulsa? Welcome to town and SuzukiSavage.com! I live way out east by Catoosa.

I've always used Castrol products in the past, but I've been rethinking that with the Savage. As the weather warms up I would recommend a 20w-50w of whatever flavor you prefer.

As for where to get... your selection will be really narrow at Wally World (I hate them anyways) or even the auto parts stores. The regular cycle dealerships are gonna ream you $$$... So, if you want a decent selection, and fair price, I recommend you go to either Ron's Cycleland out near Pine and Yale, or Tulsa Cycle Supply farther out east at Pine and Garnet. Both are small independant shops but pretty well stocked.

I just replaced my oil with castrol actevo sythetic. It's a little stickier than I'd like. The clutch chatters a bit and doesn't release as well as it should.

I'll be going back to yamalube.

Used to use shell advance VSX 10w/40 synth before I found putoline.
