can anybody let me know the proper procedure for removal and install of chain tensioner on a 1996 suzuki ls650 savage i had removed cam gear and reassembled only to have the chain slapping noise i suspect the tensioner popped out but the bike runs good !

I wouldn't start it again till I solved this. IF the tensioner lets go, the spring goes in polaces that won't tolerate it, the chain can come off the sprocket & cam stick valves in the piston. The cam chain making noise is, to me, a very serious thing to be dealt with immediately. Others may not feel so strongly,Lets wait & see.

my guess is you left the rachet locked and the plunger didn't take up the lack.

In any event get back in there and fix it. NOW!

I must say my local dealer in north jersey was able to give me the info I needed I was able to get to the tensioner with ease and replace with a new one.If all dealers were more free with info things would be alot easier
