Title: Some questions from Brazil..... Post by callado on 03/26/07 at 18:31:51 First of all, I'm new Savage's owner and I very glad with all the usefull hints I'm getting here. I'm from Brazil (so sorry 'bout my english), and here the LS650 is a discontinued motorcycle since 2001 (my own is a 2000 model). Here in Brazil it's very easy and cheap to design and produce new acessories from scratch, but it's very hard (and expensive) get all the other parts you need. All right, here I go. I was reading all the topics about jetting, rejjeting, shock absorbers and spark plugs and I reaaly want to do some mod's in my bike. But I can get these stuff here and have to order it all from USA (I still need to find some good on line stores that send it all to Brazil - or get a friend to do it and send by mail). I'm accepting suggestions. So, before I order a bunch of things, I resolve share with you guys (who have a bigger experience) my needs about mods. I want to replace and order these products:

sorry I'll not help you here - my view it hurts more than it helps in the long run Quote:
do you want a Denso or an Iridium plug (ngk)? Quote:
this doesn't do anything if you're going to change the mainjet any way and are willing to sand the white spacer in half Quote:
need to explain what it is Quote:
you really don't need that many if you know your elevation above sea level - what is in the carb now ? Quote:
rare to need to change these - what is in the carb now? Quote: on the progressive shocks I'd suggest you keep the bike roughly the same height and just up grade the shocks - based on the 200kg load the 412-4233c's are reasonable - if your really going to heavy load it - most of time - 412-4236c - but really going to load I mean you need a better pipe if yoursis the stock canister - like a HD SE II would be good |
Title: Re: Some questions from Brazil..... Post by Reelthing on 03/26/07 at 22:47:43 and by the way the deal is - what is in the carb now ? you need to drop the bowl and pull the main jet - if it's a 145 likely a us spec carb (assume it's stock) if it's a 135 it's a EU spec - need to know that before any carb work is done |
Title: Re: Some questions from Brazil..... Post by klx650sm2002 on 03/27/07 at 09:21:38 Denso do an iridium plug # IX 24 B. Clive W :D |
Title: Re: Some questions from Brazil..... Post by callado on 03/28/07 at 06:35:31 I'll check my jets today then, with right information, we can work in a good mod for my savage! Thanxs! PS: Denso IXU01-24 is a racing iridium spark plug. |
Title: Re: Some questions from Brazil..... Post by klx650sm2002 on 03/29/07 at 01:12:06 What's the spec on the IXU01-24 ? The IX24B is 0.4mm center electrode with a u-groove tapered cut earth electrode. Clive W :D |

All the information about these spark plugs can be found at http://www.globaldenso.com/PLUG/racing/features.html. |
Title: Re: Some questions from Brazil..... Post by klx650sm2002 on 03/31/07 at 03:02:46 It seems that the difference between a IX24B and a IXU01-24 is that the latter has a slanted earth electrode. Comparing the IXU01-24 (0.4mm center electrode) with a similar 0.8mm center electrode plug gives a 1.2% power increase. I'll stick with my IX24B (0.4mm) for now. Clive W :D |

Even if I use the SU-6595 that has the original dimensions? Quote:
The Irididium Spark plug I told you before is a Iridium Racing model. Quote:
Yep, you're right. I'll jet the carb without buy any dyno stuff. Quote:
I was talking about the cable that plugs the coil to the spark plug (Sorry, my tech englis is very lame!) Quote:
My elevation is about 2950 feet and the main jet here is the 125 (very, very lame - but our gas is mixed with etanol for polution control reasons). I was thinking about use the 130 main jet. What do u think? Quote:
Right again, don't need to change the pilot jet! Quote:
Believe me, I use the mencioned load most of time! Quote:
I already use a very better pipe. Take a look on this stainless stell/aluminium pipe at http://www.roncar.com.br/br/mostra_produto.php?id=736 Thanxs for your atention. Now I just need to figure out how to buy all these things an mail them for me......... Callado! |
Title: Re: Some questions from Brazil..... Post by callado on 04/02/07 at 07:54:11 Folks, I really nedd to know your opinions about this mods.... |

Do you already have the free flow pipe on the bike? - if so does it backfire when you let off the throttle or turn the engine off when you stop? - the normal up jet is 1 or 2 sizes when you change to a freeflow exhaust and air filter. - so a 130 is likely right on I'll help you with the parts if you have a paypal account? by the way do have any wires going into the left(port) side of the carb? Have you had the diaphram/slide out of the carb? if so is there just a single long spring or 2 long springs with a plastic washer in the middle? |

Yes, I have one of these - http://www.roncar.com.br/br/mostra_produto.php?id=736 Quote:
Yep, she always backfire when I letoff the throttle - and she do it a lot! Quote:
That's what I was guessing.... Thanxs! Quote:
Man, this will be a very nice thing to do. How can we do this? ( Actually a don't have an account, but I can create one!) Quote:
I have the throttle wire on the left side. Quote:
Yes! Quote:
Just a single long spring |
Title: Re: Some questions from Brazil..... Post by Reelthing on 04/02/07 at 21:31:01 ok - on the wires - I'm not talking about the throttle cable - but electric wires going into the side of the carb ? |
Title: Re: Some questions from Brazil..... Post by Reelthing on 04/02/07 at 22:14:45 ok - if you do not have any electric wires going into the carb we know what we have. do you ever ride in very dusty conditions? if not the K&N slide in filter will help - if you do ride in the dust(grease the back side of the filter!) I would not use the K&N. I've sent parts around the world several times via email-let's do this one open on the forum..... Based on the answers: I'd suggest these part's: K&N filter(if not a dusty ride): SU-6595 head to pipe gasket: 14181-45c00 pipe to muffler gasket: 14771-24b01(copper clad)/14771-46e00(fiber) Tube of hi-temp copper permatex: mainjet 130 132.5 and 135: pilot 50: Spare white spacer: Progressive Shocks: 412-4236C SuperBrace: 4 Test sparkplugs Champion : RA6HC NGK IR Plug: DPR8EIX-9 I need to order some other suff - so your only shipping will be from houston to brazil - do you want me to price these things? |
Title: Re: Some questions from Brazil..... Post by Rockin_John on 04/02/07 at 22:23:06 Hello Callado, It seems ReelThing is well on the way to helping you with your issues and parts needed. Thought I would mention to you that I have loaded my old '87 model to 200+kg and was very surprised at its ability to pull right away and accellerate well with original gearing and tire size on flat ground. However, depending on your top speed needs, and terrain; hills / mountains etc... you may later want to consider the chain drive conversion discussed lately. Or, you may find the original gearing already to your liking. Another suggestion on Shock Absorbers: While not the higher quality of a Progressive, an alternative is the slightly taller factory shocks from a Suzuki Intruder. They are a bit taller and would help handle the added load you carry. However, they aren't going to have as much added performance and adjustability as the Progressive. You could also get a taller Progressive and get both benefits. I'm hoping you may answer a question about the exhaust system you posted the link to. What is the construction of it? There seems to be a material between the inner and outter pipes. What is that material and its purpose? I'd just read the page myself, but I don't read Portuguese ;) Regards, John |
Title: Re: Some questions from Brazil..... Post by Reelthing on 04/02/07 at 23:06:07 looks like a "stuffed" glass pack - hollow tube down the middle with holes and fiberglas on the sides to muffle it a bit |

I couldn't tell if the picture shown was a cuttaway view of the internals, or if it was a slash cut with the packing showing. Just curious... as is my nature ;) |
