I'm going to do the sportster seat mod but was wondering if there is a particular model or year sportster seat that fits better on the S40 than others or will any work ?

Good question. I don't think anyone knows the year, stock number, or which sportster it comes from.

i believe they're '04 and newer. the HD parts book i have shows sporty seats fitment '83-'03 and '04-present.

04 to 06 has the front tab similiar to the stock seat, & tab on back to bolt down to rear fender, see azjays thread to make centre bracket, in tech section,
