Will 150/80-15" tires fit my 89 Savage?

Just ordered tires, but the back tire was in wrong size...
140/80-15" is the original size.

What brand/model tire?  Different manufacturers build the same size tire in different sizes.

The rear wheel of the Savage is 2.75" wide.  Tire manufacturers should have an on-line listing of their tires, with height and width, as mounted on a specified rim width.  For the 140/90-15's that rim width is 3.00 or 3.50 -- meaning that the Savage's rim is a tad narrower than optimal.

The only thing that I know is that a wider tire tends to rub on fender rail bolts on the left side...especially if the saddle bag supports are mounted.

I've got 140/90/15" on now, and that works fine. But it's worn out, so I need to change.

The type is Dunlop K555.

Dunlop K555 rear, 150/80-15 TT, 3" rim, diameter: 24.65" width: 6.3"

I have a 140/90-15 D404 on Thumper.  Rated on a 3.5" rim, diameter 24.73", width 5.85"

Diameter is no problem.  Width is 0.45" greater, a hair under a quarter inch each side.  Close enough to at least give it a try.  You can likely remove anything that rubs.  (You were planning on a Bobber, right?)

No, I think I had to go up a few more inches then. No my Savage is pure original.

that foreven.com site doesn't list the Maxxis tire (WhiteWalls!), and under "Manufacturers' Recomendations" they *claim* that Dunlop recomends the K591 Elite.  However, at http://www.dunlopmotorcycle.com/fitmentguide.asp (http://www.dunlopmotorcycle.com/fitmentguide.asp) Dunlop actually recomends the D404.

While it looks like he went to a bit of trouble, he did not list the actual size of the tire as mounted on a rim.  With the same Nominal (such as 140/90-15) size tire there is *considerable* variation between manufacturers.  One brand of 140/90 may fit fine while another will rub.  Most manufacturers do list the mounted size as on a recomended rim.  Unfortunately, it is a 3.00 or a 3.50 rim, not our 2.75" wide rim.

I use the Maxxiss Promaxx Street. Sticky, cheap & lasts long enough to feel like I got good service for my $$. No chikkin strip on the rear.
