Title: Reversing Risers on 07 S40
Post by strangeling67 on 02/20/07 at 21:22:42

Hi,
I was thinking about reversing my risers on my 07 S40 to give some more space up front. Just wondering if this makes a lot of difference and if the risers actually look ok reversed ? If anyone has any comments or pics that would be great.

Thanx

Glenn ???

I did that shortly after I got my '05. It helped. The bars were too close before. I thought it looked OK. Not as odd as I would have thought.

Just curious.  What does "give some more space up front mean"?  Got any pictures, guys?

I did this with mine. It realy helped with my long arms. Moves them away from the knees a little more. Greg 650 I don't have any picts. but I believe that john1652 posted some on a different thread. Strangeling67 it only takes about 10-15 minutes to swap then arround so you can try it if you don't like you can swap back in just a few minutes. One word of advice, put a towel over the tank as the bars may come down rather quickly when loosened, don't ask how I know :'(.

I did that on mine as soon as it got home from the dealer. I have long arms also and it was much more comfortable. Now when I turn around in the road, my elbows don't jam into my ribs. Also you will find that you set more upright and your butt won't go to sleep, or you don't have to do the front of the seat raise. It feels more like a dirt bike posture. Ill post a picture i have on
bikepics. Don't mind the quality of the pic http://w2.bikepics.com/pics/2007/01/14/bikepics-771498-800.jpg

It puts your hand position about 4" higher and 6".
forward.

Oh yeh!!! Maple trees=maple syrup. I'm the fourth generation of tree tappers. My dad used to make extra money as a kid selling it.A couple of guys around here have "sugar shacks" built out in the woods to boil it down from sap to syrup.I just do enough for my own, and my kids consumption. I just boil it down in a turkey deep fryer, and finish it up on the stove in the house. It takes any where from 12-18 gallons of tree sap to make enough syrup to fill a Jim Beam bottle. GOOD STUFF. I took some to Alice's Restraunt and Reelthing scarfed it right up. The stuff in the store is 10%. I prefer 100%

love the stuff - find some canada stuff in one store here that claims pure - seem real proud of it - might mess with a persons diet if your trying to maintain a heeman figure

Hey.  Don't blame me.

I would have discussed risers but I couldn't see anything else in his pitch black bike photo except for his license plate.

:P

Rob, it got started in the cafe thread on hot sauce and somehow ended up in this thread, must have been the high quality photo messed Greg up.

I warned everybody it would be a great picture. Your right about the plate but you can see the bars pretty good. Instead of the bars straight back over the tank like a running rabbits ears, they  look more like a German shepards ears in the alert mode.

All of the above. I only got this computer a year ago and never used one before, so I'm doing the learn as you screw up method. No not really, only partly true. If it wasn't for some great people on this site, I would still be lost when it comes to posting pictures and quotes. Thanks again!!!

Thanks everyone, I think I'll try reversing the risers this weekend and see how it works out. After I remove the handlebars I just loosen the two bolts at the bottom of the risers right ? Will this allow me to just turn them around without actually removing them ?

You got it. All you have to do is remove the brace that the bars set in then loosen riser and rotate them, don't tighten risers until the brace is back in, then tighten risers. Put the bars in place and reclamp. I f your arms are as long as mine you will like it a lot better. Let us know what you think after a few miles.

Ok I couldn't wait until the weekend so I reversed the risers this afternoon and like you said it only took about 15 minutes. I'm really happy with the extra room it gives my arms and although I only went on a short ride it feels sooooooo much better than before. Definately worth doing and it even looks a lot cooler than I thought it would. Thanks again everyone for your help !
