Title: SEAT IMPROVEMENT Post by franch on 02/04/07 at 17:17:51 Ok everyone, I need your best input here. While i'm in the process of recovering the seat(s) with leather; I think i should shave off some of the top layer of foam and "splice" in some gel; particularly on the passenger seat. I did the seat lift and honestly my butt is fine but the better half suffers. I am NOT considering a change of bikes so don't even go there. I have looked closely at gel bicycle seat covers and think one could be integrated into the passenger seat if the foam was cut out carefull like. Don't get me wrong, if i should add some to the drivers seat and things improved i wouldn't pregnant dog. whats everyone think ? and where to get the gel material ? thanks in advance as always |

A lot of dual-purpose guys were buying those pads that are for for kneeling down on and cutting them up as inserts. You can get them at target, home-depot, etc. I've seen some that are kinda' hard foamy, and some that are kinda' gellish. Shop around and see what you think. You might consider letting the foam bend down the sides of the pillion to add a bit of width as well. Show us the results when your done. |

Here is clip from an email I got back from them when I had inquired about raw foam stock for a seat on a custom I am building. Their site has a lot of detail on how to mod a seat in anyway imaginable. Cut it down, build it up , insert it..they show it all!!!!!! Or hit your nearest cycle bone yard and pick up a saddle seat of some sort and work with that. I put a used V-Star seat on mine (pretty easy mod) and did about 2,200 miles on it. I picked up a full saddle shaped gel pad for the 2,000 mile trip back home and wasn't really impressed with the improvement. I could have put the hundred bucks to better use I think. Spreading my weight out over a wider area helped hugely. |

Title: Re: SEAT IMPROVEMENT Post by Jim_R on 02/05/07 at 10:44:03 I used a wal mart bicycle gel seat for 13.95 haha. The vinyl I bought was 3.00 for a square yard. It made a very big difference. All I had to do was cut out the shape and replace it with gel. |
