Title: Re: white wall tires Post by PerrydaSavage on 01/19/07 at 13:19:59 Avon makes white walls ... and where your Savage is Bobbed, you may not have to worry about tires larger than stock rubbing the fenders ... a google should take you to their website ... I've seen a few Bobbed LS650's on the Web with a white walled tire on the rear, so a size that fit that rim at least must be available ... |
Title: Re: white wall tires Post by Bri_Fri on 01/19/07 at 13:45:26 Here is a link to the metzler website: http://www.metzelermoto.com/en_86/tires/template_categorie.jhtml?catid=86SPCC&productid=20021 They are pretty pricey :-/. Im not sure if the rear 140/90-16 tire will fit ??? , but they do have a 100/90-19 front tire. I have seen them in person and they are quite bootiful :D |
Title: Re: white wall tires Post by Paladin on 01/19/07 at 15:15:40 The MAXXIS website claims that they make in their M6011 street tire line whitewalls in both 100/90-19 front and a 140/90-15 rear. Their sizing chart lists the rear tire as being 24.7" diameter and 5.7" width on a 3.5" rim. Dunlop lists their D404 in 140/90-15 as 24.73" diameter and 5.85" width -- which tire I am wearing without any rubbing. I sent off a request as to whether or not they still produce those tires. |
Title: Re: white wall tires Post by Holodeck on 01/19/07 at 18:48:21 I had a maxxis put on the front by an independent dealer a few months ago. They ordered it and did the install for $80 +. Very happy with it, much better than the stock pos. Two dealers wanted $100 to take off the rim, love to find work like that for a 15 min. job. I'm going to do the rear also, white walls are soooo cool. |
Title: Re: white wall tires Post by PerrydaSavage on 01/20/07 at 05:56:43 ;D Please post up pics of your installed white walls! I'd love to see 'em! |
Title: Re: white wall tires Post by Holodeck on 01/20/07 at 08:24:23 I don't have the stuff needed to post pictures. But if you close your eyes and think of the old bikes from the thirtys and fortys - you will see it. |
Title: Re: white wall tires Post by Paladin on 01/20/07 at 11:57:16 Stopped by Walgreens this morning for some female stuff, on the way out noticed a display with little keychain digital cameras -- $10. |
Title: Re: white wall tires Post by Holodeck on 01/20/07 at 12:54:52 Bike bandit has 100-90-19 for $55.31 +ups ground. 140-90-15 for 83.24+ shiping. The shop did the ordering for me + free $25 mount and balance + 9.1 tax for $80 and change. I also looked at the avon but the maxxis was a lot better looking, imo. Thanks for the camera tip, I will try to post a picture, however at my age I'm hanging on to this new technology by my fingernails. I still can't find the kick start on this bike. |

:D ;D HA.. You know, THAT IS THE ONE THING that would have made The Savage a HUGE marketing success! It NEEDS a kicker just for the principal of a thumper bike. |

Title: Re: white wall tires Post by Savage_Rob on 01/23/07 at 12:14:56 That looks very nice. |
Title: Re: white wall tires Post by Paladin on 01/23/07 at 13:43:06 That is High Class. I get whitewalls I'll have to fix my oil leak and wash the bike. Maybe then the wife will allow me to park in the living room also. |
Title: Re: white wall tires Post by babbalou on 01/23/07 at 18:45:04 Belt drive & whitewalls are a great match. No chain lube flinging onto the tire. I ordered a Maxxis whitewall 2 years ago but found out they had stopped making them, though their website displayed them. Sounds like that may have changed. |
Title: Re: white wall tires Post by Five_Points on 01/25/07 at 12:45:12 Man, Holodeck, that whitewall is a great look! Gonna have to wear mine out a little quicker this spring! haha. Thanks for the tip on the Maxxis tires. I haven't been able to find any white walls until now. I'm no where near needing new tires yet, so hopefully these are still available when I do need them |
Title: Re: white wall tires Post by PerrydaSavage on 01/25/07 at 16:53:56 :o Whoa Holodeck! That has to be the best lookin' tire I've ever seen on the front of a Savage!! Got any pics of the white-wall on the rear? |

Title: Re: white wall tires Post by PerrydaSavage on 01/26/07 at 09:05:34 Very cool! Am amazed at how well the white wall tires suit the stock un-Bobbed Savage ... especially with that silver color of yours Holodeck ... very classy; kinda "art deco"! Can't wait to see the WW on the rear too! |

Title: Re: white wall tires Post by PerrydaSavage on 02/18/07 at 16:43:17 ;D Those tires are beautiful! They really suit the Bike! Are they stock sizes? Care to post brand and sizes please? |
Title: Re: white wall tires Post by Holodeck on 02/18/07 at 17:02:16 Both tires are Maxxis Classic M6011, stock size. Avon makes one that will fit the front but not the rear. Maxxis was the ony brand I found for both rims.I ordered the rear from Bike bandit, $82 + UPS, 5 working days to my door. Very happy with the whole deal. |
Title: Re: white wall tires Post by PerrydaSavage on 02/19/07 at 00:25:40 Thanks! ;D 8) |
Title: Re: white wall tires Post by Rogue_Cheddar on 02/19/07 at 11:43:52 Hey Holodeck! Nice tires. I'll be getting them for sure. How's the sound on that fishtail pipe? It looks great. Is that the same unbaffled one I see in J.C.Whitney? Bike looks very sharp. I see the mini turn signals on the back but I can't see the fronts, did you chuck them all together? :) |
Title: Re: white wall tires Post by Holodeck on 02/19/07 at 12:19:02 J.C. Whitney, $45. The sound was so loud it hurt my ears at half throttle, and had no top end. I now have a 3 row beer can baffle and it goes like stink but is still too loud- the neighbors are making some stern remarks about it. I have a six row to try and will see how it goes. The turn signals are a work in progress, I can't decide where to put them. but after trying to make hand signals while in gear I know they will go somewhere. |
Title: Re: white wall tires Post by Rogue_Cheddar on 02/19/07 at 13:09:46 I know JC Whitney also sells some 8" baffles that might plug right in, Have you thought about using one of them? I had been eyeballing that long fishtail pipe on their website for quite a while. It looks good, but I'm kinda leaning towards just a fishtail tailpiece on a Cherry Bomb muffler. It's good to know that the straight pipe requires some baffling to keep the power, I was afraid of that. Somebody else had done a Cherry Bomb setup and still had to plug a bolt in there to force some back pressure. How are you doing the beer can baffles? I'm not clear on that, any pics? Thanks. |
Title: Re: white wall tires Post by Holodeck on 02/19/07 at 15:46:50 The J.C. Whitney mini-muffler ? I know nothing about. Type in baffle and you will see a 2 row beer can, named because the indents look like they where punched in with beer can opener, known in the old days as a "church key" I bought mine from WD when he worked at the bike shop, maybe he knows where you can get some longer ones. I slid the bolt into one of the slots used to crush the muffler onto the pipe. The permanet way is to drill a hole , slide the baffle in and bolt it up - tricky |
