Title: New pics after my mods...
Post by Five_Points on 01/15/07 at 08:04:03

Well, I finally got finished with round one of my mods. New Fender (cut it, and painted it), seat, LED skull Tail light, made a side mount license bracket, front and rear LED turn signals, handlebars, and grips, Removed safety sticker on tank, and side cover stickers. Here  are some pics. What do ya'll think?

Going to do some pinstriping on the fenders, and maybe the tank, and see what I can do about the tank stickers .Thanks for looking

Tim

Very nice! Like the red seat, rear fender and bars! Nice package!

Really sharp! I'm adding it to my favorite Savage pictures. A couple of questions... How wide is that rear fender? Do your bars hit the tank at full lock?

Thanks,
John

That looks sharp.  The red and black work well together.  Those Z-bars look nice too.  I'm looking at doing the side-mounted license plate also but only if I can illuminate it separately and have a centered taillight.  Just a personal preference.

Let me know if you find one Rob. I've been looking to do a sidemount license plate with a catseye taillight under the fender. 8)

Will do but be advised, it's not a high priority right now so it may not happen soon... unless I just happen across something.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm really happy with how it came out.

To answer everyones questions:

@ Rockin_Jon: The fender is 7.5" wide. The bars do not hit the tank. There's about 3/8" betwee nthe bars and tank when at full tilt

For you guys looking for a license plate light, try ebay. Or you could also use the one that's on your bike now. The tail light and license plate light are wired seperately, so it'd be easy.

Here's a couple links to license lights, that I found in 2 minutes of searching ebay for you:

8)Very, very nice work! I absolutely love what you've done with your Savage!

What brand are the LED directionals? Are they a direct swap and are the fronts still also running lights (as the stock blinkers were)?

Lovely looking bike mate,
Where did you get the seat?
Where there any issues with fitting it?

Cheers Tomohawk.

Thanks for the info. I like your Kra-z-bars, but they are pretty expensive. Been looking at some taller cheap old school 70s Z-bars just to see what they'd look like. They're about the same width as yours, and seeing that yours don't hit gives me hope that these old ones wouldn't hit either.

Like the other poster, I'm really interested in a cat-eye under fender tail/stop, but I want to be seen, so leaving the light sticking out from under the fender a bit sounds like a good idea to me. I'd still uses some kind of running/marker lights on the sides too.

Anywise, Like what youv'e done... A LOT!!!

Thanks again.

@ Rockin_John,
I got all the stuff off ebay, cheap. The bars were only $40, so I snagged em up. They usually are closer to $100 (way too much for me)

@PerrydaSavage
I can't remember the brand of the LED turn signals. I'll look and see. The fronts are no longer running lights though. I got them on Ebay from Demon Cycles South (http://stores.ebay.com/DEMONS-CYCLE-SOUTH?refid=store). They also have a webfront store at http://www.demonscycle.com/

@ Tomohawk,
I got the seat off of Ebay. Did a search for slim line solo seat. It is a West Eagle brand solo seat. Got it from Lee's speedshop (http://stores.ebay.com/Lees-Speed-Shop_W0QQsspagenameZMEQ3aFQ3aSTQQtZkm) on Ebay. I think he also has a webfront store @ http://www.Leesspeedshop.com

Just want to reiterate everyone else...Nice bike!

Couple questions, is that style of seat comfortable for the long haul, and how do you go about installing something like that?

Title: Re: New pics after my mods...
Post by Five_Points on 01/17/07 at 11:46:43

I haven't been able to get out on it yet, as it's 20 degrees here in OH. I think it'll be fine though, just from sitting around on it. I didn't install any springs, as the suspension is just about right underneath the seat, and I like the look of the seat sitting low. If it's too rough of a ride (which I don't think it will be) I'll add a set of short springs under the seat.

I made brackets to attatch it. Bent steel into "<___>" and attatched it to the seat brackets on the frame. Then attatched a straight piece up front and attatched it to where the tank mounts. fairly easy with a vice and a torch

Hey that bike looks great. The post is a little old. Do you still have the bike and how does it ride?

Nice job, 5 points!  It looks great....

Once my kids get too big to haul around (comfortably) on my savage, I'm going to do something similar and get a large cruiser solo seat.

What part of Columbus are you in?  Have you ever ridden up route 3 towards Mt. Vernon?  Awesome ride.....   (My parents live outside of Loudonville, so I get the pleasure of that ride every time I go to visit...)

Great job on the paint too.....

Year-old post.  It had me fooled for a bit.  Hopefully we'll find out how that seat's been for the last year :P.

I also love what you've done to your bike. I prefer drag bars over the ones you have, but thats just my preference. I did put a set of similiar bars on an old 60's BSA 500 twin that I customized way back in my high scool days (class of '72). Back then they were called "Z bars". Mine were a little higher. But your bikes looks great!!

If I remember correctly, Five_Points was selling the bike last fall. I have not seen any posts from him in quite a while. Five _Points was the member that pointed me to e-bay to get my one of "Savagalope" bars that adorn my bike.   Hutch

I really like the look. I would make a bobber outta Bull, but if I did, how would I strap bags on for a trip to the store or, when it starts getting cold, haul the extra clothes for evening or, like now, this time of year, hauling rain gear & a jacket for that rain storm that pops up from outta nowhere.
IF I could figure a way to slap bags on & take them off I would make these mods.

do like i do, ride with someone with bags! lol

Hey, Sorry guys for the lack in updates. I don't get much chance to get on here with my work. been slammed lately. I do still have the bike. It now has 10" Z bars, I stuck some tortion style springs under the seat. pinstriped the tank and rear fender, removed the front fender and slapped a tkat fork brace on her, and am in the process of redoing the pipe with a straight drag pipe baffled with a washer. I'll get some more pics of her and slap them up here asap.

You aren't talking the old "snuffers" type washer are you? Those were great. Twist for open pipe, twist for washer baffle. They were the rage in the 60's. Pull that big muffler off the 160,250,305 Honda Scrambler and replace with a pair of those. They actualy muffle the sound pretty good, and when open give a lot more acceleration and top end.   Hutch

yep, just a DIY deal. welded a washer onto a bolt and will twist it open/closed to get the performace I'm wanting.

I think the brand name of the old store bought exhaust washer/snuffer that people recall was the "Snuff-or-Not" and they had a small spring and wing nut IIRC.  Always wondered what you were supposed to do about jetting the carb with those installed. The bike I most recall a friend having them installed on was a scrambler piped Honda 305cc. And as I recall they did take the sound down enough to get you past the local police.  :D
