Title: right side cover gasket
Post by franch on 01/05/07 at 03:54:06

I was noticing the discussion of the oil passageway between the clutch and the head.

the gasket on my 98 covers this passageway. does that mean that i have effectively blocked the passageway ?
maybe thats why peoples clutches slip.
when did suzuki rework the gasket ?
i guess i'm going in there again with a new gasket or i'll use an exacto blade to trim the old gasket.

Look at it a little closer.  The passageway is covered by the gasket as it should be.

The oil to the clutch squirts out the little brass jet over the clutch on the left side of the picture.

Sorry to correct you, it does not. It directs the oil to the other (LH)side of the engine and at the same time, because of the restriction, builds up pressure in the oilpassage way to direct oil to the cilinder head.

Huh?  Ah....hmmm....D@mn.  I HATE BRAIN FARTS!

You are right!  That's just a brass plug in the passageway!  What was I thinking?

Okay, well I was right about the gasket, but blew it when I was looking at the brass piece.  Hell and it's my own uploaded schematic too.  I NEED TOO LOOK MORE CLOSELY TOO :P

As Mr. Kropatchek says...oil goes to the left hand side and is also routed up the cylinder stud to the headcover.  It feeds the clutch through the transmission shaft....

I'll go shut up now...

Hey, I always try to be correct, even when I'm wrong :P

I'm glad that you pointed that out.

Back to this one again, just to make sure that it is perfectly clear :P

Before, I called this a plug, but the SSM calls this an oil jet.  Wouldn't it be more correct to call it a metering orifice?

And a closeup looks like this...

The oil is flowing from the filter to this jet (orifice) and also through the crankshaft at the seal? And this "jet" just regulates the amount going to the transmission.

Bet that it would suck if you left out the jet.  You might starve the crankshaft and top end of oil.  The SSM states that you should inspect the crankshaft seal from time to time.

And with the clutch removed here is the supply to the filter...

Thanks Greg, you made it perfectly clear to a lot of people.
Mabey Savage Rob can move it to the Technical section as "oilsystem"?

I thought that I'd do something since I'm getting parts all over the garage, anyway.  I've just always thought that the schematic was too vague.

Wait, Rob....don't move it, yet.  I'll create another one and upload photos too.
