8.5" wide might be too wide to fit (unless you don't mind cutting notches out to work it around the frame. I'm in the process right now of installing a bobber style fender. It is 7.25" wide and barely fits.

I used an 8" and did have to cut out metal for the right shock and belt on the left...not to bad...
