Title: Water in Fuel?
Post by TVR on 12/23/06 at 15:04:58

Rode out to a friends and had to hit reserve. Pulled into a station I've never used before and filled up (2.2 gals). About 15 miles to his house. When I got there it died and barely started. Sat for a bit while we fitted a trough on my trailer for Murphy. Cranked back up a few hours later and it was running horribly. Would not idle and acted like it was loading up. Backfiring like all hell.

My friend, who is my favorite genius, drained a little fuel out of the bowl just to see what he could see. Couldn't see anything really. Cranked it back up and it ran fine. Drove home, 22 miles, no problem. Purred like a kitten.

The only thing I can think of is water in the fuel and it settled to the bowl and we got it out. Only drained about 3/4 of a cup out.

That make sense or does anyone have any other ideas.....

Sounds about right, doesn't take much water in the carb to mess it up. Had a ride on tractor that alway got water in the carb and it ran, or didn't run, the exact same way. Maybe there was some water sitting in the reserve and it got into the carb when you switched over. Just drain the float bowl a couple more times and take it from there. Your post just reminded me that I haven't drain the bowl on my '02 for over a year, guess it's time to, thanks ;D.
