Title: Rear suspension.. S40  (swing arm?)
Post by musicdorian on 12/12/06 at 19:03:32

Can anyone tell me if my 2007 S40 has a swing arm for rear suspension, or is it a traditional frame.  The Savages are listed with swing arms, but the S40's, are they different or the same.  Thanks.

yes there is a swing arm on 07's. follow the rear shock down to where it bolts on. That is your swingarm

When you say "shock". I think to myself that there are two shocks on the '07 model.  Are you sure that it is a swing arm?

OMG The swing arm is the one that bolted to the bottoms of the shocks. The shocks are attach to the bike frame via top bolts.

Gottcha...   thank you very much.  My confusion lies in look of the BMW single swing arm.  I was used to thinking of single swing arms.  Thank you very much!

BMW has a cantilevered swing arm, high tech.

The BMW (if single sided) is a swinging arm, the Savage is a swinging fork.

that may be more descriptive, but the terminology came long before us.

English is so wonderful. The Savage swing fork don't look like any fork I've seen in my life. Terminology for thing are relative; take "C*ckpit" for example, then what do you call it when 2 female pilot is in it?  ;D ;D

Sorry I was wrong, I cheked up and found that when the "swinging arm" was first invented it was called a pivoted fork.
Only a two pronged though.
