Title: Re: Most amusing Savage accessory? Post by stinger on 11/13/06 at 00:46:22 Wow! Really nice job! What a sweet side car! Looks like it was designed specifically just for the Savage. I have a couple of questions. I have never owned a bike with a sidecar or rode in one....... 1) Expensive? I mean are we talking thousands of dollars?.....2) Does the person riding in the sidecar by law have to wear a seat belt? )..3) What is that green scooter thingy in front of the savage?..4) Does it have lots of storage space?..5) If you wanted to say go ride for a day or weekend without the sidecar, is it easy to remove and would that be advisable? Thanks for the photo's. |

Title: Re: Most amusing Savage accessory? Post by lancer on 11/13/06 at 06:00:02 Very cool indeed. Regarding the skill sets required to ride solo or with the sidecar ... there is certainly a significant difference between them but being able to switch back and forth safely depends on the capability of the operator. In military aviation it is possible for a pilot to have to fly different aircraft which can vary greatly in type & size and require very different skill sets for each. It can and is done safely if the operator is capable. Try flying a fixed wing aircraft, prop or jet, and then jumping into the seat of a helicopter ... it is a whole new world. But it can be done. |
Title: Re: Most amusing Savage accessory? Post by Paladin on 11/13/06 at 08:12:48 Same with cages. I can hop from a stick-shift econocar to my V6-auto company van with no problem. That is with me using left foot-clutch right foot-brake in a stick and left-foot brake in an auto. Trust me, you don't want to stab the clutch in a auto-shift car. I would think that the instant you hop on and can or cannot lean the habit set would shift to match. I considered a sidecar for carrying the girls as passengers -- but they said they wouldn't. Pity. I was 11 when I got a ride in my uncle's side car from Heathrow to Slade Green -- IMO much better than being a passenger with a huge rider in front of you blocking the view. |

Title: Re: Most amusing Savage accessory? Post by Brewbrother on 11/14/06 at 16:00:57 nice looking side car. If my wife had even the slightest intrest in riding I would have one. |
Title: Re: Most amusing Savage accessory? Post by hunnus2000 on 11/20/06 at 14:29:17 Totally Awesome! Hello all I just signed up over the weekend. My wife owns a Suzuki S40 which is a ton of fun to ride. But you actually attached a side car to the Savage???? What year and size is the Savage. I want a sidecar because when we go to the lake I want to be able take the dog and the sidecar is the perfect solution. My wife may be ready for a bigger bike but would that sidecar attach to the S40? Would the S40 have enough power or is that an 800 you've pictured? Man I've got alot of ques\tons! Thanks a bunch! |

Title: Re: Most amusing Savage accessory? Post by hunnus2000 on 11/24/06 at 05:34:38 Cool looking setups! I'm curious, what's your top speed when carrying a load? We want to carry our dog in the side car along with a few other luggage items. We don't anticipate getting on the highway but we will probably need to go at least 55 mph. |

Title: Re: Most amusing Savage accessory? Post by Savage_Rob on 11/24/06 at 16:58:15 I bought mine from www.superbrace.com but tkat's looks impressive. I think he only made a limited run for the Savage/S40 though, so I don't know if any are still available. It certainly can't hurt to ask. |

Title: Re: Most amusing Savage accessory? Post by necropsy on 12/21/06 at 12:04:05 Looks like a picture of Suzyssuzi's bike made the reader mail section of the January/February issue of Canadian Biker. First LS650 I've seen in the pages of this mag , and no mention of what kind of bike it is. |
Title: Re: Most amusing Savage accessory? Post by geo on 12/21/06 at 20:53:53 NO! I'm never going to attach a side car. Get an SUV if you can't get all your junk loaded. |
Title: Re: Most amusing Savage accessory? Post by Fido_the_Cat on 12/22/06 at 18:10:26 Now Geo, settle down. I agree with the "throw your stuff in the back of the truck" attitude but this is the way these people live. It will take more than a "Cozy" to get my wife to ride that close to the ground. Looks Cool. LANCER: "there is certainly a significant difference between them but being able to switch back and forth safely depends on the capability of the operator. " I have known chopper pilots (2) that have remarked that going from plane to chopper can be done by persons capable of making the adjustment. It's no insult to anyone who may (Me Me Me...) [knee jerk reaction] pull away when leaning into an inbalance or curve. But what about these steering brace or dampers. Are they really that good or are they for bikes with a few k's on the clock and need some support. |
Title: Re: Most amusing Savage accessory? Post by suzyssuzi on 12/25/06 at 07:39:07 first off sidecars are not for everyone, it was an excellent choice for my wife (gave her more freedom to use bike for work , shoping etc) she does not ride my bike so there is no transition, however i ride both and there is no problem with going between either, just get on and ride. i prefer my bike but when i am on her bike it is sooooooo much fun. steering brace is just for a little added steering stability, w rode without for a while no problem ,damper just makes it smoother. anyways as they say dont knock it till you tried it (you may not go back) happy holidays to everyone |
Title: Re: Most amusing Savage accessory? Post by Phelonius on 12/26/06 at 11:47:51 I like it, But then I am in the process of attaching a Velorex to my S-40. I didn't have the heart to do that to my DR650SE. Phelonius |

Title: Re: Most amusing Savage accessory? Post by Reelthing on 12/26/06 at 12:42:31 looks like that 20mm could've been had for $189 w/52 spare parts - wonder if the price has went up since the 1950's |
Title: Re: Most amusing Savage accessory? Post by Phelonius on 12/27/06 at 13:42:29 Between 02 and 05 I had a DNEPR MT11 with mounted machinegun that ran on a propane and oxygen bottle hidden in the bustle. A pair of 12 volt solenoid valves some solid state wizardry and a cheap spark coil was all it needed to work. Sounded like the real thing and shot a foot of flame from the muzzle. Lottsa fun and I got a lot of respect from cage drivers. (No crowding my lane, no tailgating, no illegal left turning in front of me. In fact at an intersection even if the cage had the right of way they would wait and wave me through ahead of them. It's amazing how polite cage drivers can be if they have the correct innitiative. BTW girls loved to ride and shoot it. Phelonius |

That's over the top! You have to post some pics. Just an image I can use when smiling at cagers who think "This is their road!" Thank-you. Thank-you. Thank-you. |

I would love to as I still have a few photos. However there is a glitch. I am a computor dummy and do not know how. Additionally, I use a computor at the public library and do not know if it has this function. I can tell you that I built it from scratch during the winter of 02-03. I was working as a machinist and welder at the time and had access to all the needed materials and tools. I am retired now and live about 2000 miles from that shop and so do not have the rescources to build another yet. The key word is yet. I have recently moved into a place where I now have a garage for work spsce and as my meager retirement income allows, shall be equiping it with lathe , welder, and milling machine. I want to build another of course. If you ride through the Port Townsend Washington area, stop in at Jim's Honda shop at the edge of town. He has a photo of it there. Phelonius |

Rob, I took your advice and contacted Tkat. He said he had one left, so I bought it. He also said the response from the Savage crowd was underwhelming. I think he could be coaxed into building some more if he had sufficient interest from the group. |
Title: Re: Most amusing Savage accessory? Post by justin_o_guy on 12/29/06 at 12:46:18 I sent him a message a month or so ago, no response, maybe it didn't go thru. I have one coming now tho, ;D So, with the jetting & the Trapp & the brace, it oughta be a whole new ride. |
Title: Re: Most amusing Savage accessory? Post by TVR on 12/29/06 at 15:06:41 I had sent him a pm and got no answer, but I dont think he comes on the site. Answered my email in less than an hour. tkat@tkat.com if anyone else is interested. |
