Title: Noob Question about seat
Post by mavrik on 11/12/06 at 15:04:30

Hello Savages: I have a 05 S40. The seat is uncomfortable after 30 minutes.

What style make model should I look for? need something better for sure.

Also I want to change the handlebar grips. What should I be looking for?

Thanks for all your help Yes I know my saddle bags are on backwards, I have changed them sincehttp://w1.bikepics.com/pics/2006/08/16/bikepics-657768-800.jpg

I am also a noob. Got my '06 about two weeks ago. Have learned a lot from this site. Check out the seat mod. It's basically making two spacers about 1" to1 1/4" long with longer bolts to go under the front seat/ gas tank mount. I made mine 1" long and did not have to change the two side mounts at all. Made a big difference. No longer feel like I am sliding into the tank! There are several articles about adapting "Sportster" seats. Seems like the only challnge is adapting the center bracket for the side screws. All the pictures have looked great on the "sporter" seat mod's. Welcome aboard!!!

Yep, the saddlebags are on backwards AND there's a maple leaf on your front fender.  :)

Seriously, there's also a gel seat for the S40.  I don't know if that's a good upgrade, but it would keep the bike stock.

Hopefully someone with the gel seat will give their experience with it.

Forget about the gelseat. Install a HD Sportster seat and your butt will thank you.
