Title: Iridium Spark Plug
Post by barb36jack31 on 11/02/06 at 16:49:17

What is the correct iridium plug to replace the OEM plug in an S40?  I know I have seen it on this website, but can't find it now.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thumperclone - Thanks for the swift reply.  You may be completely correct about no increase in performance.  Sometimes it is a case of a fool and his money soon parted.  Will give you a shout after I have it in for a while.

Thanks again for the info.

Yeah, I decided I'd pop an Iridium plug in earlier this summer.  If there is an increase in performance, it is so infinitesimal that I can't detect it.  Anyhow, I'll probably go back to the standard plug next time the Savage needs one.

after how many miles should the plug be replaced ? i use a stock plug, which every time i check is still that nice tan color so i just leave it on, but i've probably got 7500 miles outa that plug so far.

The 2002 owner's manual (linked in the Tech Section) indicates that you should replace the spark plug every 7500 miles.

AFAIK, Iridium plugs are used mainly for durability. They provide long service life in cars that have extended service periods. Something like 100,000 miles.

They may also provide a better spark. Since many people say there is no performance increase in a Savage motor, it seems as though the spark is not limiting performance.

I put one on my bike two weeks ago,I like it,the engine seems to sound a little different, seems to me like the fuel is burning quicker,I think I have added a couple more horses, top speed the same ,but getting there sooner.
