Title: Head Cover Removal
Post by vroom1776 on 10/11/06 at 12:45:30

Hey Gang,

Two questions about removing the engine head cover...

1)  Is it necessary to remove the L70* bolt to remove the headcover?  See this diagram (http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?board=tech;action=display;num=1099227295;start=0#3).  Greg_650 says it comes off w/ the head cover...

2)  Once all the bolts are removed, how hard should it be to actually remove the head cover?  Any suggestions on where to pull or pry?  I do not want to break any fins...

As a note, the factory service manual says not to remove the S30* bolt.  This one keeps the cam in place...

Thanks,

V

I recall there was one bolt that did not have to be removed. It is likely the one Greg refers to.
I found it best to remove the cover by twisting it forward to clear the cam sprocket, then pulling it out to the left side.

I pulled mine out to the right side and I took out the L70 bolt as well. But then again I also took the engine mounts off of the frame for better clearance.
