Title: Is Suzuki Manual or Clymer Manual better?
Post by Tomohawk on 10/09/06 at 16:44:36

Hi,
as the title says which is better, the official Suzuki workshop manual or the Clymer manual?

I just recieved the Suzuki workshop manual in the post from ebay, and its a bit disappointing. Is the Clymer better and is so in what way?

Cheers,
Tomohawk, Dublin, Ireland...

Hi Tomahawk, I can't speak for the Suzuki manual, as I have the Clymer's. I found it pretty straight forward with decent pictures and photos. I was able to recently put on a new belt drive even though this is my first motorcycle and am not an ace mechanic but I'm not above wrenching a bit if I can. I got the CLymer's for about $23. I would get it if you can. It never hurts to have a different perspective. At work in my computer programming life, you always need more than one technical manual on any given subject. I don't see why it would be any different working on motorcycles. Ride safe.

I'll vouch for the Clymers too.  I like it because it shows actual photographs instead of hand drawn pictures like most factory service manuals do.

I think the clymer manual is a bit more user friendly.  But, I've heard some of its numbers are not quite right.

I have both and use them both.  The Clymers is easy to read and well organized.  However, the Suzuki service manual is more accurate and more detailed.  There's a thread in the Tech Ref forum for folks to list inaccuracies found.  One big one with the Clymers is that it tells you to rotate the engine in the wrong direction when setting it to TDCC.  Always rotate it the same direction it does when running.  Anyway, that's my take.  I like having both but if I had to choose only one, it'd be the Suzuki manual.

I second that! Happy with both manuals, you can never get enough information
