Title: Question: Which SE Turnout Mufflers Post by gary_ona_savage on 09/19/06 at 16:42:54 I want some of the HD Screamin Eagle turnout slip-on mufflers. I've found several on ebay, but I'm not sure which fits the Savage. For those of you who have mounted the turnout mufflers, which ones (which harley model) did you get, or does it matter? Title: Re: Question: Which SE Turnout Mufflers Post by azjay on 09/20/06 at 07:46:08 there are basically two types, a flange type bracket generally refered to as the sportster mount, and the grooved mount generally refered to as the dyna mount. either one will work, we have a dyna type on debby's bike, which only required a carriage bolt for attatchment. i believe the sportster type requires a little tweaking to fit, but i have no experience with that type specifically. |

These are the turn out mufflers. Only difference, to my knowing, between these and the 80000-84B is the B has Screaming Eagle script. I like sleeper items, myself. I bought these for my 1991 FXR, but my stock pipes are in such bad shape after removing them, that I decided to go with aftermarket pipes instead of searching for stock." I struggled a long time pulling the old muffler, clamp, heatshield assembly off the header. It was really stuck on there. Also I had to go back to the speedway muffler shop about 5 times to get the adaptor right, I'd drop by in the morning, he would open it up a little bit more, I'd check the fit after work and then take it in again the next morning. Finally it all fit together. I love the sound. My coworkers tell me it sounds like a real motorcycle now, not like a sewing machine. When I'm stuck in traffic between a couple of thump-thump cars, I can still hear my engine running. A slight twist of the throttle and I can actually drown out their sound. Title: Re: Question: Which SE Turnout Mufflers Post by smokey02 on 09/28/06 at 23:41:28 Hi Lancer I did not rejet, I did turn the pilot screw out maybe 1 turn, and I still have the stock airbox with a new stock filter installed. The pipe was blue when I purchased the bike, hasn't changed much. I'm not so sure its running that lean, because the inside of the end of the muffler is coated with black soot, and I don't need to use the choke unless its down to 60degF in the mornings, and then for only a few blocks before it starts to lope (hit and miss). What kind of MPG do you get when you rejet? |

I'll see if the muffler shop can make the connector pipe from some stainless pipe pieces out of their dumpster. Thanks to all of you for the great detailed information!! When I get the old '87 back together I'll post some pics and put it on the map. This is a great forum with a super group of members! Mine had a buckle that actually chipped my paint after going over a nasty pothole. I couldn't get that bag off fast enough. I think I'll remount mine behind sissy bar. |

Oh well, its a 10 year old bike that I ride to work every day. I'm not so young either, I'm showing some wear too. Title: Re: Question: Which SE Turnout Mufflers Post by smokey02 on 12/03/06 at 14:35:36 luken the adaptor pipe has a slight bend, maybe 3 deg. 10 deg. bend was too much, it didn't line up. I also cut 2 slits in the front end of the adaptor about 3/4 inch deep with a hacksaw so that the clamps could compress the end down on my header, used some muffler repair goo in a tube inside that front joint to prevent leaks. I just added some part numbers to go with with pics. Also I sold the 2nd muffler to Charlie in the Virgin Islands. Waiting to see his install pics. |
