I got an idea. I am tired of bending down with the keys everytime I start the bike. What if I relocate the ignition switch to the handlebar? Any specialities I should know? Or just some wireing and a little bit of craftwork?

I definitely will do that. Then I will check back.

Another thing I am thinking of is putting a choke lever on the handlebar connected to the choke knob. Mine is well worn and is jumping back when I pull it out so it is easilly moving. Maybe I will use one cable from another bike. Any ideas?

I'm planning to do that to my Amal Mk2 one of these days too.

How many wires are going into the switch? I can't remember... Maybe 3?

Been thinking about this a bit also, relocating ignition up near the handlebars along with the speedometer and instrument cluster from the tank. Does anyone know why the kill switch exists and could it be legally turned into an ignition switch..?? I know the present system allows for rear light to be on (and left on draining the battery :D), but is it also a legal requirement? I think it (the kill switch)has to do with emergency workers' safety but think that might be a european rule, not necessarily a US one.

rather than bending over, try sitting on machine first and reach down behind leg to insert key

i wouldn't mess with the kill switch. when me and the bike part company when riding i like the ability to shut it down. you may never have to use it, until that one time that you need it.

that and it makes a good device to make a backfire. nothing like poping one near a bus stop and watch people scatter :o ;D

on my last thumper that i rode for over 20 years the key located on the bars were a pain. many times while uder heavy acceleration, if moved the bars it turned the key off. now that really sucked.

Sluggo, that's an interesting note- I get aggravated enoughwith the sputtering when it reserve time for the fuel. Igniton moving sounds less appealing but still in the range of possiblilities. I was picturing a speedo centered on a plate mounted on the handlebars, with the various lights mounted around the perimeter, and the ingnition mounted at the "bottom" closest to the tank.
