Title: Time to git'r done Post by steelwolf on 09/02/06 at 14:02:16 As bad as I hate it I am going to have to pull the head and fix that d@mn leak. It is getting worse by the mile I think. After looking over the walk-thru that Greg put on here I know it's within my abilities and how long it will take but I still have a few questions. 1. What other parts or gaskets will I need to do this other than the plug it's self? 2. With over 7k mi. on the clock should I do the cam chain work at the same time being that I'm going to have the head off anyhow? |

1. The sealant off-course and I would repace the rubberlined washers ( 7off). 2. No. IMO . Do this after another 7K mi. Greetz Kropatchek 8) |
Title: Re: Time to git'r done Post by bentwheel on 09/03/06 at 11:49:14 When you order the cap/plug try and get the newer replacement one. I say try, because I ordered a current year plug and got the old style one shipped instead. For sealant, I used Permatex Ultra Copper with excellent success. I think most owners are getting in the range of 20,000 miles before the cam chain and tensioners require attention. BTW I miked my old leaky plug and the new one and found 1mm difference. It doesn't take much considering it is a compression fit. |
Title: Re: Time to git'r done Post by steelwolf on 09/03/06 at 12:22:02 Ok, so nix the cam chain work for now. So all the parts I need to buy are the plug/cap, permatex, and some (7) new rubberlined washers. No gaskets or O-rings, or anything? I have a new crush gasket for the header pipe connection already. I bought it 2 or 3 days before noticing the leak so I put off putting it on till the leak was fixed. Man why couldn't the leak wait till cold weather. >:( |
Title: Re: Time to git'r done Post by steelwolf on 09/04/06 at 19:32:07 Well I ordered the parts from Ron Ayers today. The plug/cap and 7 rubber washer/gaskets. And now we wait................. |
Title: Re: Time to git'r done Post by Jim_R on 09/05/06 at 18:16:11 My chain went out at like 6 k. I would at least check it for specs since the head is off. Heck I would replace it if I had the money just so I know it wouldnt be an issue in the future. But that is based on the fact mine blew up and bent the valves. |
Title: Re: Time to git'r done Post by steelwolf on 09/05/06 at 18:21:51 Good idea. I'll check it while I'm there. Thanks Jim. |
