Title: cylinder studs
Post by Tim_C on 08/28/06 at 10:22:54

Does anyone Know what the cylinder stud (w/cap-nuts)size is?Tried 10-1.00,1.25 &1.50 Asian metric without luck.Need to double nut stud so I can remove cylinder head w/o removing engine.Burned an exhaust valve @16K miles due to factory lean condition,I guess.I dont flog the bike(much) and the longest ride was to Daytona, about two hours, and that was last year.

Measured it up for you:

M9x1,25 mm

Use the nuts that held the head to the cylinder .

Thanks,Kropachek, you have been most helpful as always. Its an odd size, most likely used only on engine internals as I couldnt find a single nut elsewhere on the bike that matched it.Ineed two as the cap nut is flanged and cant get a wrench under it.Do you know of any one who has successfully pulled the head while in chassis?Again,I truly appreciate the efforton your part

I loosened/removed the engine mounting bolts on mine & the engine tilted enough so I could get the head off.

Thanks,I started doing that, already pulled the front two but the one that goes thru the rear of trans gave me trouble...it felt like it might snap.I'm guessing  better to snap that than a head stud, though.I'll go at it again this evening one way or another...really miss riding
