Title: 2002 Savage Seat
Post by LS650RJM on 08/19/06 at 12:17:17

Suggestions appreciated! I have noticed that several members that have swapped out their seat for a Suzuki gel seat have not been happy? Is there a decent aftermarket seat made for the Savage that will just bolt on? The problem with the current seat seems to be that it is made in two pieces. It is at the junction of the two pieces that makes any ride longer than one hour painful. Thanks!

The new S40 has a one piece seat. That's what I wanted before the "bob job". It should just bolt right up.

Has anyone tried the one piece S40 seat on the LS650? If so, is it a perfect fit and is it any more comfortable?

Just take your seat to a custom shop and have them add padding and recover it the way you want it. I bought a used seat set and had it modified. I think it cost $125.00.

The S40 gel seat will fit on the Savage with very minor mods.  It's what I have on my 98 and I'm happy with it.  Some folks weren't comfortable with it.  I do ride slightly higher with it (and even higher with the 12.5 " Progressive shocks).  Some folks prefer the HD Sportster seat modified to fit.  Do a few searches on the site.  You should find plenty of info.  At least a couple of the Sportster seats have been done in the past couple of months.

I got the gel seat for my 2002.  Didn't think it was much of an improvement.  I'd go for the sportster seat.  You can put the seat on without drilling a hole in the back fender if you remove the back tab from the seat if you are really set on that seat.

Here is the direct link for the LS650: http://www.gts-seats.de/german_index/programm/suzuki/modell/SUZUKI_LS_650/index.htm It does look good. I wonder if they will sell in the US?

I don't think they have a distributor in the US. They used to be carried by Seeger Cycle but not anymore. I emailed Seeger awhile back and they said they had fitment problems on the Savage and didn't carry them anymore.

They do look nice ;D

It may enot be what you're looking for, but I have a "chopper style sprung seat on mine.  Installation was easy, and for me it's been a lot more comfortable than the stock seat ever was.  I believe Sluggo has one as well.

That's the seat Gitarzan had on his Savage before he sold it.  His had the flame stitching.  He sold the seat separately.  I spoke with him about it at the time because I loved the look but was really concerned with comfort.  He said the seat was more a show seat than anything else and that if I wanted comfort on any but short rides. that I should get something else.  Just an FYI.

I just finished a seat mod tonight!

Walmart theraputic memory foam pillow $18
Walmart black neoprene(waterproof) bucket seat cover $20
3/8 T50 staples $3
Staple gun from the tool box

Looks great and feels fantastic!
I will document it and give pictures in the next couple days on the Tech page!

BTW... the pillow and the seat cover provided enough for the Savage seat AND my 1400 Intruder seat!

It was a REAL EASY mod that took an hour or so!
