Title: I got bored...(updated)
Post by steelwolf on 08/19/06 at 05:34:50

...so I went out to the stable and cut off the tail of my steed. I broke off a shock mount bolt in the process but as for the results. Sluggo would be proud. ;) Now all I need are the apehangers. ;D Pics will follow after my lil' girls softball game today.

You look a lil' large for lil' girls softball but, good luck anyway.  Yuk..Yuk..
I've thought about  trimming my fender too, but have been gutless to try.  Like to see how yours came out.

Serowbot, I actually took off the stock fender and replaced it with the rear off of a 70's Honda (well actually about half of it) I had lying around. Cut, cuss, grind, cuss, drill, cuss, and mount. ;D Part of the upper belt guard was "donated" for the side mount license plate bracket. The solinoid (at least I think it is the solinoid) is now inside the newly desnorkeled airbox and the rectifier moved from the fender to the back of the airbox. Screwed in place for security. If you guys want pics of anything specific just ask and I'll get 'em up as quick as I can. On a side note. I went to the Suzuki dealer to get a bolt to replace the one I broke off and guess what? They had to order it. No surprise there. $7.50 for the bolt and nut plus waiting a week for it to come in. What's the point of a parts desk if you don't stock parts? ???

Ok here's a couple of pics.

And with the buckhorns painted black and added to the drag bar risers.

The Savage makes such a pretty little bobber.  If I didn't have a requirement for the saddle bags.....

Wow!  It really makes the rear meat look intimidating!
I like it!

It is amazing how much the overall look changes when just one area is changed ... even with the stock ape-hanger bars painted black.

VERY COOL !!  ;D

I'm with Paladin on this one.  It does make a great bobber... I just tend to strap stuff to the back for my commutes and use saddlebags for longer rides.  It's pretty cool how many different ways we find to personalize what is basically the same bike to start with.  I like to see all the variations.  Very nice.

What bars did you have on it before you put the apes on it?

Those are the factory buckhorns on there now. They are just setting on 3" risers. I left the risers on after removing the drag bar to see if I was going to like the feel of having the apes on it. So far I like it. It's a little awkward till you get used to it but it's only been 3 days and I have adjusted to it just fine. As for the front fender. I will be doing a partial amputation to it soon. I am still deciding how much I want to take off. Thinking of taking more from the front part than the rear. The crash bar will likely fall prey to the "chopping" as well

I have been thinking of fitting a straight bar to the stock risers..  I like that look on yours.

Hey Steelwolf, do you want another opinion? I can't help but think that your rear bobbed fender looks like no fender. How about a different fender extended about 4 to six inches and with more skirt?  Paint it  yellow to match, and then you got something.

it a great start, you should get more bored. debadge the machine.  i would lower the fender closer to the wheel. i can send photos of a bracket you can fabricate easily and quickly.  once you start it's hard to finish.

Bentwheel, I was kinda going for the no fender look but I didn't really want every little rock on the road hitting me in the back. But thanks for the idea, I do like it. In the end the whole bike will be the same color but probably not yellow. I like the yellow but when I paint it the yellow will only be a memory. I'm thinking "Thing" needs a more sinister paint scheam. The yellow is so "Happy".

Sluggo, thanks for the offer on the bracket pics. I'ld like to see them. The decals are gonna go as well I just haven't gotten around to it yet. The ones on the side covers were easy to get off so I yanked them shortly after taking the pics.

I really like the bobbed look but would want the fender to hug the tire, mounted to the swing arm.I tried to find a reasonably priced rounded fender but all i see is flat ones.Any ideas?

Fantastic bob job.  Two thumbs way up.

And I dunno, I like the yellow on Thing.  Kinda reminds me of a hot rodded Model-A my grandpa used to have.

Love the handlebars.  Hang 'em high!

8)Love the look! As for a paint scheme to replace the "happy" yellow? How 'bout a flat black, flat red 2-toned vintage Bobber scheme?
