Recently bought a 2000 savage with 1800 miles for wife. Perfect bike for a new rider, lightweight with low seat height and the bike looks sharp! Installed a Memphis Hellcall windshield that was on Honda Nighthawk 250 we had prior to the Savage. Wife said wind was coming up under her full face helmet, big time on the Savage. Rode the bike, she was right, major wind! Talked to a Suzuki dealership about trying another shield, went with the factory S40 shield (no improvement), returned shield and ordered a Slip Steamer SS-32-16 Falcon (huge shield), installed shield and "huge wind blastage" around sides and underneath, returned shield, paid restocking fee, and ordered a Slip Streamer "Spitfire". Installed shield, no improvement (major wind across chest) Tryed adjusting all four shields to every configuration possible with little improvement (S40 only up and down adjustment). Put the Memphis Hellcat back on for now, seems to be the lesser evil. This site is awesome for anyone with a savage and looking for input. I throw it out to you savage experts for input on the wind issue. Either the wind goes bye-bye or the bike goes (and that would be a shame). We both tired of dealing with it for months. I ride a V-Max with a small factory shield and the wind is never a probem at all. The savage starts getting windy at 35 MPH!!! Any ideas for a happy ending?

I use a National Cycle Flyscreen (as do several other Memebers of this Site) and I find it perfect ... even with my O.F. helmet ... didn't cost much on e-bay and it's small size doesn't overwhelm the Savage's front end ... fully adjustable, deflects bugs over my head and takes wind pressure off of my chest. 8)

The Hellcat can be adjusted to advoid this type of wind blast - it takes a bit of tinkering to get it however - raise it up above the head light and angle it forward - as you ride put a hand up near the top edge and follow the wind - where is it hitting? should be going over the helment - we have a pair of them.

i've got a spitfire on debby's savage and it doesn't have any issues like you're describing. but we do have harley bars on it, which may locate the 'shield in a slightly different place. the bottom of the 'shield just does sit on the headlight (at the seam), and it's angle is just a bit more upright than the fork angle, no vibrating either. i also have a spitfire on my HD, with no complaints. i hope you find what you're looking for.

2 1/2 things to consider:

1) as for wind going up the FF helmet, do you have one of those little doo-dads that kinda fits in the chin of the helmet? If so, install it. It will greatly reduce the amounjt of wind going up the helmet. For me, a must in the winter.

2) When riding, try putting your (her) legs real close to the tank and engine. This may cut down on the wind significantly. If this is the case:

2 1/2) get some lowers to go with a windshield. Works great on V*s to reduce wind and passenger wind buffetting.

the screen that came with my bike is a "National Cycle Plexstare 2" it sits about an inch over the headlight seam, it works just fine,I wear glasses and so far they have never blown off,it's quite cosy behind that screen,I never had one before,and I was going to take it off as soon as I got it home,but it was so good I kept in on,and it's going to stay there.

and that's about the correct adjustment for the hellcat - mine is around an inch above the headlight and tilled forward a bit - baseball cap bill to front will stay on at least to 40mph

Hi, have "enterprise" by slipstreamer, not very much wind, but maximum speed is now 80 mph ()indicated).
Nice thing is the unit protects the hands also, but the mounting leaves a little to be desired, mine keeps pushing back till it hit the brake resevoir.

I did forget to mention the only problem with my wind shield is, it stops the bugs from going in my mouth,I realy miss that good protien ;)

Thanks for the input. For the adjustment on the hellcat, it was mentioned to angle it forward. It this forward position from the angle of the forks or from the 90 degree horizontal axis of the road? I know a little adjustment can go a long way when it comes to deflecting wind. I thought about the lowers, anyone know where they can be purchased? Another big question, for the folks who have no problem with wind, are you able to clearly look over the shield or looking through it? I did several adjustments with the hellcat tilted where you was looking through it and the wife hated it, said it looks like a distorted view. A point about all four shields I tried so far, they all looked good on the bike. As far as where the wind seems to be coming in the most appears to be by the fork tubes drawing up beside the gas tank. I could easily get rid of any helmet buffeting but couldn't eliminate the updraft. It's strange because it seems like it vacuums the wind directly on the chest and upper shoulder area. I know this happens because the wind ripples a shirt so bad it almost hurts, you can see the ripple effect of the shirt in the mirrows. My V-max doesn't do this at all.

I'm using a Turbo Fairing by Slipstreamer. It is large, with side fairings meant to protect your hands (works, somewhat). I'm 5' 10.5" on good days, and my eyes look 1" to 3" over the top, just like I want to. Some bending and "custom" adjustments involved in installation. I am very comfortable behind it, although I seem to remember someone (Max Morely maybe?) saying they felt that it directed wind from underneath the shield back up towards themself (it has a curved back "shelf" on the bottom. Stylistically (is that a word?), I'm more the bagger type. The chopper guys would hate it. I ride in rain, a lot. You'd be amazed how dry I stay behind it.
