Title: Whoops! SuperTrapp covers axle bolt!
Post by barb36jack31 on 08/05/06 at 13:48:08

Just noticed today that my newly installed Progressive 12.5 shocks raises the bike enough so that my newly installed SuperTrapp covers the rear axle bolt.  Looks like I will have to pull the exhaust system when it becomes time for a rear tire change.  Should not be too big a problem.  I will probably put about 2500 miles on the thumper each summer (Here on the coast of Maine), so it will be 4 years or so before I have to deal with it.

Pull the shocks rather than pull the exhaust system.  That way you can move the swingarm wherever you need it to remove the axle bolt.

Wish you luck with that 4 yr. tire life. I just put a new one on the rear today. 4000 mi. on the last one (Cheng Shin Barracuda). Front one is the same brand and put on at the same time. Looks new. I'm guessing the tire compound is soft and the torque of the Savage just eats it up with hard acceleration. I can't help it, it's the way I ride.

When you reinstall, put the nut on the exhaust side, just be sure to properly torque it and consider lock tite  as if the axle were to be turned by a bining bearing it would back off on that side. I usually do the shocks trick when I need to remove the rear tire as my ahrd bags interfere and getting the expanding rubber retainers to fit back through the case(s) is more work than jacking it up under the exhaust support after removing the shocks. Thanks, troops!  I see where pulling the shocks would solve the problem.  thanks again.

No problem!  Lord knows I've yanked my exhaust enough here lately to know you don't wanna get into that unless you absolutely have to!  ;D
