I was told that the rear brake light should work when either the frt brake or the rear brake is applied...mine works when i apply the front brake but not the rear..is there a switch that might be possibly burnt out..I own a '00 Savage with 860 miles on it.

Any help is appreciated

You're right, there is a rear brake switch operated by the brake pedel. A cable runs from the brake pedel to a switch located to the left of and just below the right side cover. Check for broken cable, bad switch etc.
