You don't want to push them this far:

(from my blog (http://www.dslretorts.com/Paladin/archives/000956.html))

Also, to lift the front end:  kickstand on a brick and a floorjack under the frame:

I'm changing my front pads today. Thanks for the tip on seating the pads.

It's in the Clymer's book.  I am not very fussy about GO.  When it comes to WHOA I tend to RTFM.

I don't have a Clymer book, but the brake job took 30 minutes. Mine were almost as bad as the ones in your picture.

How may miles did you get on those pads?

I understand seating the pads. When I put new pads on cars, I sometimes chamfer the the leading edge and "bed" the pads by repeated stops or applying a little pressure while driving for a distance (and letting them cool before stopping).

Is chamfering or bedding a good idea with the Savage pads?

Steve

I got the Thumper used, 22 months ago, with just over 5K miles.  Since the old pads were also EBC brand either Suzuki uses EBC as OEM, or the previous owner did a replacement at or about 5K miles.

Thumper has turned 13,000 miles, so I got either 8K or 13K miles on the pads, depending on whether they were replacements or the originals.

Don't know about chamfer or bedding, but it sounds like it wouldn't hurt.

Only had 2,000 miles on my stock front pads and they looked just like the ones in the picture. Just a warning for anybody with a newer bike, the OEM pads wear out quickly, keep an eye on them.
