Title: Chirping Clutch or tran
Post by joewestfall on 07/06/06 at 13:08:30

any info would be appreciated.  I have noticed a chirping associated with the clutch on my 2006 S40...at first i noticed it just at the low end of each gear, but someone that heard me drive by said it chirps at high speed too...i guess the helmet and air noise kept me from hearing it.  I have tried to adjust the clutch, both at clutch lever and on the crankcase, but I had no success in diminishing the noise.  I have read on here that the belt drive has been an issue, but the noise isn't coming from that area at all.  When it is chirping it quits when I engage the clutch, when it is out, and I first accel slowly it gets it's loudest.  sometimes does it worse when cold, sometimes when hot.  sometimes will do it when cold and quit when warmed up.  I rode it for about an hour the other day.  When i arrived it was so loud i hesitated riding it home, but it didn't make hardly any noise on the way home.  please save me a trip to the dealership.  btw...it has 2K miles on it.  had it less than a year

it's a common sound, a little adjustment will help.  i've learned to tune it (and the wife) out.

Luckily I almost threw the wife off the S40 first time she rode.  She won't go near it.  I love it when a plan comes together.  Thanks for the info...i will see how many extra parts i can end up with when i align and loosen the belt

the device that comes with the machine still makes the belt a little tight.  top and bottom of belt should be able to twist 90 degrees with ease.

all of our bikes do that. spray a bit of WD-40 on the belt.  it will stop
