Title: spark plug
Post by mickthelimey on 06/22/06 at 20:44:51

I recently asked advice on changing the dreaded spark plug,my local stealer wanted $50 labor + the plug,
what the heck I'm retired I have lots of time,so with manuel in hand I gave it a go,it was EASY the hardest part was reconnecting the battery, finally got that done only to find the battery flat,it was just about shot anyway, the good news from all this,My local BI-MART had a sale on M/C batterys,I found one to fit my Savage
for $19.95 ,works like a charm.
so remember, when all else fails read the instruction book. Mick

Dumb question. (I'm a bit out of the loop, tech-wise.)
What is the big advantage of the Iridium Plug that I keep hearing about? I know platinums supposedly last longer, but what about the IR plugs? Better light-off? Less detonation? Makes it easier to get low-interest loans when purchasing a house?
If so, I'M IN!!!! :D

I don't think you want less detonation.  I mean, detonation is what a spark plug is all about.  My understanding is they require less juice to be as effective and they foul less.  To me, that translates to better reliability.  Take a peek at this. Cool! I should've been more precise in my wording, I meant less pinging/knocking type of detonation. I checked with NGK, and they offered nothing in the Low-Interest Morgage department, but I still wanna try one of those IR plugs. Thanks for the advice!

Iridium plugs only about 85% of the voltage or give a 17% bigger spark. This lower spark voltage is good on the KLX as she has a weak coil.
