Title: Farting and floating idle.
Post by blackiex on 06/09/06 at 13:12:38

Dear friends,

I've just bought my beauty, a 1994 Savage 650. I have a problem with idling. After warming up the idle is good for a few seconds, then giving a fart (like backfire) then it almost stops, revving up a bit again, runs OK for a few seconds, then farts again and it starts all over again.
Do you have an idea how I should handle this problem?

Thanks in advance!

David

I had a similar problem on my '96 when I first got it. I changed the spark plug. Then ran carb cleaner in the next two tanks of gas. Smoothed out the idle and runs like a charm now.

It is a strange description. It could be a spak problem, but i'd bet on carburetion. Try to play with the pilot screw- turn it OUT and IN until You find the best idle. If this doesn't help- try spraying some carb cleaner around the IN. manufold- to check for air leak.
