Title: Backfiring question
Post by Tomv on 06/05/06 at 13:54:35

Made mod to card taking care of the spacer and pulling the plug and making the adustment there by turning it out 2(two) full turns.  I have the backing from a 'bang' to a 'spit'.  Any suggestions as to what to do next except play with the idle thumb screw and the pilot screw?  My 05 has a 147 main jet.  Thinking a drop in K & N might help.

If you are still using the stock muffler, I'd grab a 150 main jet.  That shouldn't affect the backfiring but could give a bit more top end power.  If it's too rich, go back to the 147.5.  If you go to the K7N filter, you'll definitely want the larger main jet (maybe even a 152.5 but I think the 150 will do it).  Remember to start the tuning from scratch when you change the air filter type.

:D On adding the K&N filter should I put the original spacer back in?  ???

A K&N will make your bike leaner. Leave the 1/2 spacer in place. You need the richness to compensate for the freer flowing filter.

No. I wouldn't. But you will need to readjust your pilot and idle speed from the beginning.
