Title: Jockey Shift and Suicide Clutch
Post by vroom1776 on 05/30/06 at 09:14:06

Hey gang,

Well, my shift rod broke and left me stuck in 5th gear (got it home w/o stalling it already).  So I already have a new one on order, but I think it's about time to consider moving to a jockey shift and suicide clutch.

Anyone got any thoughts?  Here are mine:

suicide clutch:  make a plate like a forwad control plate out of 1/4" aluminum.   1" OD steel rod, turn it down and thread it.  Move clutch lever to it so I cna use it w/ my foot, new cable.

Jockey shift:  Basiccaly take the shift rod, flip it around, and affic to a 3/8" steel rod that I can bend to my liking.  Attach steel rod to crank cover by a swivel joint and mounting bracket & rod.

On the other hand, if someone has a good idea on how to use a 1" pipe on the end of the shift rod, I could put the clutch lever on there...

Thanks for any input!

V

I believe my dad knows some guys who build their own suicide clutch and jockey shifters for their VLXs.  I'll talk to him and see if I can't get some pics and id'eas to ya, if you're interested.

Bump!

After removing my pass pegs, the hole through the left side of the swingarm could easily be used to mount the hand shifter.  The shifter would sit behind my left leg.  Attaching it directly to the shift rod sticking out of the engine puts it right where my lower leg goes...

I have some German engineering students working for me who also like bikes... They have agreed to engineer me a jockey shift setup... will let you all know how this works out and post details.
