Title: (Update!) License plate Mod. with Pics
Post by SeattleSavage on 05/24/06 at 16:34:53

""If you do a similar mod use stainless angle iron. The 1/16 thick aluminum doesn't bend, but if you kick it getting on or off the bike it will break at the shock mount, and if you fix it and kick again it will break again!""  :o :P Didn't like the way the plate hid the tire. So some aluminum angle iron, SS cap nuts, a grinder with metal blade, and a drill later we have side mounted plate. $35 includes the standard plate frame from suzuki. ($7.95) just bent it on my knee. I ordered a led accent light witch will mount under the side rail and shine down on the plate. 4LED chrome POD 6.95 http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/commerce.cgi?product=ACCENTS

nice job,  i would have placed it on the other side. that way it hides the shock off set due to the belt.

here's an example.  you can clearly see the off set on the plate side

Shiat. Good point, I got it nice and tight to the tire this way though. Don't think they're reversible, too late.  8)
Ummm Sluggo, looks like birds aren't that found of your savage?

Sluggo is your fender mounted to travel with the tire. Answer: Yes, duhh. It looks good like that.

thats's a mud rooster tail you on the tank. not birds, they like my cage better.

no the fender is mounted to frame, it took me some time to get the right adjustment, so it stays close to tire, yet not hit on large bump.

also i was stopped by the wsp for the upright license, they claim it has to be horizantal, not vertical.

the tail light is off a 1950 international pickup.

every thing i add is a "vintage part"  gives it a nice old look.

190x40 now,it comes standard iwith a180x40  i think the 190 looks better and has no drag issues due to the chop job.

Nice work.  I made one for my V* and savage.  The one for my * came out nice.  Maybe I will post a pic of that too...

Vroom,
what V-star do you have? For the highway I'm looking at those or maybe one of the honda shadow spirits with the ghost flame tanks. Post a pic I'd like to see it.

Seattle, Did you use the stock shock bolt or did you need a longer one?

Original,

I went with 1/16 inch angle iron so the cap nut has 1/8 less grab, it was still ample though probably a full 3/8ths to a half stickin out.

I should have gotten better pictures, but I always feel goofy taking pictures of my motorcycle.

Nothing wrong with taking pics of the bike. It could be worse. You could be taking pics of your nieces or nefews and having to lie to the family about how cute you think they are. Or worse still, be at a buddy's house having to look at pictures that he took of his butt ugly wife on vacation asking you "Aint she F@^$ing hot dude?". And all you can say is "Yea man. She sure is." while trying not to laugh because the beer you're drinking came outta his fridge. Besides, you ride a Savage. Be proud of dem pics man!! ;D

2004 V* 1100 classic

http://bikepics.com/pics/pics/yamaha-xvs1100-04-bikepics-427627.jpg

A little vibey, but darn smooth at 80 mph.  I've ridden the honda 1100s.  Don't like them.  Very doggy.  Plus there's a radiator.  blech.

V* has plenty of power.  Lots of aftermarket support, both for speed and looks.  Got mine for 8k out the door.
