Title: More mods...updated pics
Post by steelwolf on 05/17/06 at 19:41:39

Well tonight I took off the sissy bar, the side rails and the rear turn signal lights. But let's not stop there. I remounted the sissy bar (wife said so) without the side rails and remounted the turn signals onto the sissy bar minus all that extra crap they put on them. Also the side rails will be replaced with a custom built set as soon as I can cut them out. Probably this weekend. I will post my pics then as well. ;D

Here are the pics of the tail light and sissy bar conversions. Click on them for a bigger and clearer pic.

what kind of metal are you going to use?

1/8" polished aluminum is cheap, easy to work with, weighs practically nothing, and looks good.  Not good for stctural stuff, though...  Also, you can cut it with a hammer and an anvil (well, the 1/14", anyway).

I have some 1/4" aluminum left over from the forward control mods so I'm gonna use it. I'm gonna have them dipped this winter when I take the controls off to have them done.

Yeah, the thumbnails work but the links may only be valid to him when logged into his own account.  They're not full URLs to an image file.

I like the turn signals closer like that, these bikes look good with a narrow rear end.

With the rails mounted and the exhaust blacked out. I think that black pipe really sets off the chrome tip and the heat shield. Now just gotta mount the long universal shield for the wife.

how u have remounted the sissy bar without the side rails?

It's an hard work?

I used the bottom hole in the sissy bar and put 2 of the short bolts from the rails back in from underneath. I was going to drill another hole in both the bar and the fender to keep the bar from pivoting on the one, but it tightened down very well with only one. I'm sure with some force it would move, but it would take alot I think.

The more I see those flame rails the less I like them. Oh well. Live and learn.  :-/

Hey Steel,

I almost want to say they would look good in black like your muffler?   8)

steelwolf,
how well does the 152.5 & 1/2 spacer work with that straight pipe?

Seattle, I said the same thing. But it looks so whimpy on the fender. I am cutting a different pattern I drew up and I will see how that looks. But yea the black definately isn't out of the question. Chrome is over-rated.

This is the design for the new flames. It's laying on some yellow vinyl (however you spell it) I plan to do something with later. Not sure what though. Any Ideas?

azjay the 1/2 spacer and 152.5 main work really good for me. My pipe is 1.75" o.d. and around 18-20" long after the header pipe. No baffle. I had been tinkering with the mix screw off and on since I put it on cause I was still getting a little pop every now and again. But when I took the header off and painted it I discovered that one of the bolts at the head was loose. Not that way any longer. I had to reset the mix when I closed up the leak. Not real sure of my elevation here but probably somewhere around 200'. BTW, I am still running the stock air filter with the airbox door still intact. Drilled holes in the last door and had to buy a new one. The backfire went nuts with all that air getting in.

The flame design is great. I think it may be the fact that stock rails have depth. See how it would look using some chrome sockets as spacers to hold the flames away from the fenders.  :D
