Title: My Thumper will not pop
Post by taylorkh on 05/04/06 at 13:22:37

My research prior to purchase warned me of the backfire tendencies of the S40/Savage as well as the various fixes.  Well, I purchased a 2006 S40.  During the first 50 or so miles I experienced a pop during rapid deceleration from about 55MPH.  Happened perhaps twice more.  Then nothing.  I am approaching 600 miles (service due tomorrow) and it has not and will not backfire on deceleration.  I do get a weak pluuuhpah when I turn off the engine.  Hardly more than a bug fart.

Given that so many folks have the backfire "problem" I wonder if there is something wrong with my thumper???

Regards,

Ken

p.s. Seems to me like the backfire could be useful deterring stalking k9s or waking up cell phone addicted cagers ;D

And you're wondering if there is something wrong with it?  By all means, take it back and demand that the dealer give you one that backfires all the time!  We certainly can't have a bike around here that one doesn't have to modify!!!  ;D

And another thing while you are complaining to your dealer, have him make your brakes squeal.

Maybe even ask if they can move the pegs back a few inches. ;D

Hmmm... maybe someone in the factory is helping us a bit. I say this because I'm in the same spot, coming up on 600 miles with a decrease in backfires. However, I CAN evoke a nice pop ten seconds after slamming the throttle shut.

the backfire is controlable through the throttle. Just a bit of forum fun. Hey taylorkh welcome to our strange little group. When you get ready to extend the engine life and increase the performance check the tech section.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with fixing your bike 'till it's broke.

hehe. poor sluggo.

if you're really worried about the lack of backfiring, just drill some holes in your baffle. that oughta do the trick.
