... do I tell by looking at the Savage if the mods have been done to stop the backfiring? New exhaust is easy to see but how about the screw and jets?

I'm looking to buy a co-workers bike and I want to know if it's been done. I would ask him but theres a bit of a language barrier and I don't think he'd understand my question.

Me: "Did you turn out the mixture screw and rejet the carb?"
Him: "Qi?" ???

Well, first thing would be to see if the idle mixture screw still has the anti-tamper cap on it. Second, see if it backfires. After that, you're into opening the carb.
